According to a genealogist, via CNN, the two stars are very distant cousins.
Researchers at MyHeritage found out that the connection is made through Courteney‘s mom, Courteney Copeland, and Matthew‘s dad, John Bennett Perry.
Through their parents, Matthew and Courteney are linked through distant relatives named William Osbern Haskell III and Ellen Haskell, who were married 500 years ago. Ellen came to America in 1635, and her sons, Roger and William, are direct ancestors of both of the actors.
“We went into this line very deeply — we checked every name,” Roi Mandel, head of research at MyHeritage, told CNN. “We found a lot of records that support it, and we have confidence that they are related.”
If you missed it, a source revealed why Matthew was slurring his speech a little bit during the reunion trailer.
