New Details on 'Good Girls' Cancellation Include Salary Disputes, On-Set Feuds, & More

Fans were shocked to hear that NBC’s Good Girls series had been cancelled following a successful fourth season.

Even the stars – Christina Hendricks, Retta and Mae Whitman – were taken aback over the news that the show would not be back for a fifth season on the network.

Now, a source is opening up as to why Good Girls will not be returning.

While NBC shared that the decision to let go of the series was based on money and finances, an anonymous insider hinted that it could be because of a fan favorite star.

Apparently, when negotiations with the cast started in mid-June, the series hit a wall with Manny Montana, who plays Rio, who holds a major flame for Christina‘s character, Beth.

The report, via TV Line, adds that many had speculated that Manny‘s strained working relationship with on-again/off-again scene partner Christina may have been a factor, making the actor less willing to take the kind of financial hit NBC was asking of him.

The off-screen relationship between Manny and Christina has been described as “frosty” and the two have made several statements about their work relationship in interviews over the years.

“He’s a great actor and we have great chemistry working together and… He’s just… It’s just a very sort of respectful work,” Christina told Medium in 2019. You know, it’s funny, because I know people love [Beth and Rio]. We, of course… love that. It’s exciting and stuff. But it’s not as… it’s much more professional than anyone would think.”

Manny concurred in another interview, saying, “We come in, do our job, and then go home. It’s very business-like.”

In an additional panel about the show, Christina noted that Manny called her a name she’s never been called in her life.

“Manny calls [me]…Chris,” she said. “No one in my life calls me Chris. It’s not my name. I think it’s totally stupid. And he’s never taken the chance to realize that I hate it. It’s really weird.”
