'The Grudge' Stars Promote Their New Horror Movie at New York Comic-Con 2019

The cast and crew of The Grudge are promoting their upcoming horror movie at the 2019 New York Comic-Con!

Cast members Betty Gilpin, Andrea Riseborough, and Lin Shaye joined director Nicholas Pesce and producer Sam Raimi at the event held on Thursday (October 3) at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City.

During the panel discussion, the cast and crew addressed whether their film was a remake of the 2004 film The Grudge, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, which was based on the Japanese Ju-on series.

“It’s kind of a lore that keeps going,” Sam explained. “Both the lore and the curse. When someone dies in a terrible rage, something dark is there and it won’t let go. That’s a story that’s as relevant today as always.”

Nicholas added: “It was about finding that balance, we’re not rehashing the same stories you’ve seen before, but finding those key elements. The Grudge can happen anywhere. Obviously we don’t want to throw everything out. There’s odes to the old films, both visually and stylistically, but it is a whole new story.”

The Grudge is scheduled to hit theaters on January 3rd, 2020.

FYI: Betty is wearing a Maje jacket.

Andrea Riseborough Speaks About Starting Her Own Female-Run Production Company!

Andrea Riseborough is featured in Rogue magazine’s new issue!

Here’s what the actress had to share with the mag…

On starting her female run production company, Mother Sucker: “I was motivated by there not being any female producers or female storytellers, but also because I wanted to create work and set up an environment in which I can help them do that and support other women who work on what they want to see.”

On women in film today: “There’s a very narrow version of women in film – who are either chaste, pure and irrepressibly good, or are hyper sexualized. [They're] just very boring stereotypes of women.”
