Bob Dylan Delivers Lecture for Nobel Prize in Literature

Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature six months ago and he has finally delivered a lecture as part of his duties as a winner.

The legendary singer-songwriter recorded the half-hour lecture on Sunday (June 4) in Los Angeles and it was presented to the Swedish Academy.

Dylan will receive a $900,000 prize now that he has fulfilled the requirement of delivering a lecture.

“Songs are unlike literature. They’re meant to be sung, not read,” Dylan said in the lecture. “The words in Shakespeare‘s plays were meant to be acted on the stage. Just as lyrics in songs are meant to be sung, not read on a page. And I hope some of you get the chance to listen to these lyrics the way they were intended to be heard: in concert or on record or however people are listening to songs these days. I return once again to Homer, who says, ‘Sing in me, oh Muse, and through me tell the story.’”

Bob Dylan Won't Attend Nobel Prize Ceremony

Bob Dylan won’t be picking up his Nobel Prize in person at the December 10 ceremony.

The Swedish Academy said that the 75-year-old entertainer said “he wishes he could receive the prize personally, but other commitments make it unfortunately impossible,” (via USA Today).

Bob won the 2016 Nobel Prize for literature “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”

The Academy noted it’s unusual for recipients to not pick up their award in person, but it isn’t the first time it has happened.

In 2004, novelist Elfriede Jelinek remained at home due to a social phobia.

Bob must give a Nobel lecture at least six months after the ceremony.

Bob Dylan Breaks Silence on His Nobel Prize Win

Bob Dylan is finally speaking out after the announcement that he had been chosen to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature earlier this month.

The 75-year-old legendary entertainer will be the first musician to be granted admission to the elite literary club but did immediately acknowledge the honor or speak to representatives of the Nobel committee

Bob finally broke his silence, saying to The Telegraph, “Isn’t that something…It’s hard to believe…Amazing, incredible. Whoever dreams about something like that?”

He later added that he will “absolutely, if it’s at all possible” be at the awards ceremony in Stockholm.

Musician Bob Dylan Wins Nobel Prize for Literature

It was just announced that musician Bob Dylan has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.

The news was announced by the Nobel Prize Twitter account earlier today: “BREAKING 2016 #NobelPrize in Literature to Bob Dylan ‘for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.’”

“He is a great poet. He is a great poet in the English speaking tradition and he is a wonderful sampler, a very original sampler. He embodies the tradition and for 54 years now he has been at it, reinventing himself constantly, reinventing himself, creating a new identity,” Professor Sara Danius, Permanent Secretary of the Swedish Academy, said after the ceremony.

Bob had a tremendous impact on music, often writing about social conditions and publishing tons of hits throughout the years since his first album Bob Dylan in 1962. He’s the first American to win the prize since 1993, when it went to Toni Morrison.
