Charlie Hunnam Regrets Making Those Comments About Marriage: It 'Really Hurt My Girlfriend's Feelings'

Charlie Hunnam recently did an interview where he was asked if he and his longtime partner Morgana McNelis would get married and what their views of marriage are.

“Umm, sort of indifferent,” Charlie responded. “She does not feel the same. She is very eager to get married. I’ll do it because it’s important to her, but I don’t have any, sort of, great romantic feelings towards it.”

Well, TooFab caught up with the actor and he said he regrets those comments!

“You know what? That was a stupid thing to say,” Charlie said. “Sometimes the tone of an interview… you know, that interview was just like a lot of banter, and Hugh was sort of bantering in a very superficial — not disingenuous — but not really speaking his personal truth — we’re all just bantering. And all of a sudden we’re bantering about one thing and I get asked my opinion about marriage. I just said something that doesn’t really reflect my true thoughts at all.”

He added, “It’s like being with your pals, sometimes not thinking like… you’re not trying to articulate your sincere opinion about something; and then you see it in black and white.”

Charlie added, “I have to say that really hurt my girlfriend’s feelings. I really regretted saying that, cause I actually didn’t mean it at all. it was just, frankly, some stupid sh*t I said in the heat of the moment.”

“I’m like so romantic! The reality is I sort of consider myself married. I’ve been with my girlfriend for 14 years… I suppose what I was trying to articulate was that the official government sanctioning of it doesn’t mean anything to me; but the romance of it means an enormous amount. I really regret saying that,” he continued. “Listen, you spent 12 hours a day for three days doing interviews straight, you’re gonna say some stupid shit. Especially a guy like me that’s not that smart.”

Charlie and Morgana aren’t often photographed together but they were seen out a few months ago.

Charlie Hunnam Reveals Which One of His Movies He Wants to Redo

Charlie Hunnam did an interview with Andy Cohen during a SiriusXM Town Hall and he spoke out about which of his movies he’d like to do over.

“I’d like to go back to King Arthur because there’s a lot of things went wrong during that and a lot of things that were out of our control and I just don’t think we ended up matching the aspiration,” Charlie explained.

He continued, “We just didn’t quite make the movie we wanted.”

He was then asked if there was one thing that went wrong and he quickly responded, “Yes.”

He emphasized that there was a “piece of miscasting” that really ended up “crippling the central story line.” The miscasting was apparently

“The idea was that if it was a success, we would’ve made several of those films, and I’m really captivated by the Arthurian legends and I just feel like we really missed an opportunity to tell a long-form story,” he said.

Charlie recently spoke out on his views of marriage and you can read about what he said here.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword hit theaters in 2017. The film also stars Jude Law, Djimon Hounsou, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, and more.

Charlie Hunnam Says He Was Impressed By His 'The Gentlemen' Co-Stars Matthew McConaughey & Hugh Grant!

Charlie Hunnam stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night (January 13) to dish all about his star-studded film, The Gentlemen!

The 39-year-old actor shared what it was like working with big stars like Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant and director Guy Ritchie in the film.

“Fantastic. Matthew and I had a long period of time to work together so I got to know him pretty well,” Charlie said about Matthew. “He’s just every bit of weird, wonderful, wacky and lovely as you’d imagine.”

On Hugh: “I didn’t know what to think, you know, coming in. I thought it could go one or two ways and I was prepared for either. He just was a treat,” he said. “We spent like four and half days together, he had 45 pages of dialogue to deliver. He’s Hugh Grant, he’s a giant movie star and he’s been doing this a long time, he came in very very nervous. He relies on the bible of notes he creates. I think he’s extraordinary. I don’t think I’ve ever been as impressed, being on the receiving end, on the opposite of an actor.”

Charlie Hunnam also ran through the series of unfortunate illnesses he contracted while filming a TV show in India, including dengue fever, and recounted the time he survived a dramatic yellow jacket wasp attack in the woods.
