Brie Larson, Selena Gomez, Halle Berry & More Sign Open Letter to Transgender Community

Halle Berry, Brie Larson and Selena Gomez are just three of the big names on an open letter of love to the transgender community, in honor of Women’s History Month and Transgender Day of Visibility.

“Trans women and girls have been an integral part of the fight for gender liberation. We uphold that truth and denounce the ongoing anti-transgender rhetoric and efforts we witness in various industries,” the letter — organized by GLAAD and Raquel Willis — reads.

It goes on, saying “we acknowledge with clarity and strength that transgender women are women and that transgender girls are girls. And we believe that honoring the diversity of women’s experiences is a strength, not a detriment to the feminist cause. All of us deserve the same access, freedoms, and opportunities. We deserve equal access to education, employment, healthcare, housing, recreation, and public accommodations. And we must respect each person’s right to bodily autonomy and self-determination.”

The letter also advocates for the end of “the long history of assaults” against trans women and girls, including recent anti-trans legislation.

“2020 was the deadliest year on record for the transgender community, seeing more than 44 killings, and, so far, there have been at least nine deaths reported this year,” it notes.

“We all must fight against the unnecessary and unethical barriers placed on trans women and girls by lawmakers and those who co-opt the feminist label in the name of division and hatred,” the letter concludes. “Our feminism must be unapologetically expansive so that we can leave the door open for future generations.”

In addition to Selena, Halle and Brie, the letter has also been signed by Gloria Steinem, Regina King, Chelsea Clinton, Bella Hadid, Janelle Monáe, Patricia Arquette, Laverne Cox, Julianne Moore, Megan Rapinoe, Gabrielle Union, Cynthia Erivo, Judith Light, Amy Schumer, Cara Delevingne, Senator Sarah McBride, New York Attorney General Letitia James, Alicia Garza, Lena Waithe, Sarah Paulson, Alison Brie, Alyssa Milano, Lilly Singh, Ilana Glazer, America Ferrera, Mj Rodriguez, Kat Graham, Kimberlé Crenshaw, Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, Geena Rocero, Peppermint, Tegan & Sara, Beanie Feldstein, Barbara Smith, Melissa Etheridge, Ashlyn Harris & Ali Krieger, Lena Dunham, Amiyah Scott, Tatiana Maslany, Tess Holliday, Sarah Kate Ellis, Anna Wintour and many more.

Halle Berry Slams Radio Host Rob Lederman After His On-Air Racist Comments Comparing Black Celebrities Skin Tone

Halle Berry is calling out a recently fired radio host after hearing his comments comparing the color of hers and other Black celebrities’ skin.

The 54-year-old Oscar winner took to social media and said that the comments made by 97 Rock’s Rob Lederman were “disgusting”.

The clip was shared on Twitter, and Rob stated on The Morning Bull Show that he “may get into trouble for this,” before making his racist comments to his co-hosts Rich “Bull” Gaenzler and Chris Klein.

In the exchange, Rob had compared the skin tones of Halle, Serena Williams and Gayle King, among others.

After the incident, Rob was fired.

“CUMULUS MEDIA operates from a clearly-defined set of programming principles and there is no question that Rob Lederman’s comments made on The Morning Bull Show are in direct violation of those principles,” a statement from the radio read via People. “We swiftly terminated him and suspended the remainder of the show’s on-air talent. We apologize, and deeply regret the incident.”

“I could easily see how someone could be offended by that. I get that,” Rob said in his own words following the incident. “It sounds terrible, and it is terrible… Now, can I take back those words? No. If you listen to them, were they meant to be hurtful? Absolutely not.”

He added that he hoped to “learn from” the incident, and offered an apology to “anybody that would be hurt” by his comments.
