John Goodman Says He 'Really Missed' Working with Roseanne on Spin-Off - Watch Here!

John Goodman dropped by Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thursday (January 10) and talked all about The Connors and the controversy surrounding Roseanne Barr.

The 66-year-old actor revealed that it was “really odd” doing a Roseanne spin-off without the show’s creator and star. “We used to have a lot of fun on the show, and I really missed her this year,” John expressed.

“She gave up a lot so that we could do the show,” John continued. “She gave up all her rights to it so we didn’t have to call ourselves the ‘Monners’ or the ‘Chonners’ and invent new characters. But yeah, she will always be missed.”

“That’s pretty permanent,” John added about Roseanne‘s fate. “I mean, when I died on the show they just brought me back. They’re not going to remember, nobody was watching toward the end.”

'The Conners' Cast Promote Their New Spinoff Series in NYC!

The cast of The Conners pose together on the red carpet as they arrive at the PaleyFest Presents The Conners event on Tuesday (October 16) at the Paley Center for Media in New York City.

Co-stars John Goodman, Lecy Goranson, Sara Gilbert, Michael Fishman, and Maya Lynne Robinson stepped out for the event to promote their upcoming Roseanne spinoff series ahead of its premiere later that night.

During the event, the cast opened up about why they continued to do the spinoff after the Roseanne reboot was canceled after star Roseanne Barr‘s offensive tweets.

“We weren’t done,” Sara said. “We had more stories to tell. We wanted to give that to our audience and not end things so abruptly.”

If you missed it, during the premiere, the show revealed how Roseanne‘s character was killed off the show.

New episodes of The Conners air on Tuesday nights on ABC at 8pm ET.

John Goodman on Doing 'The Conners' Without Roseanne Barr: 'She Is Missed'

John Goodman stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday night (October 9) and opened up about moving forward with ABC spinoff The Conners after Roseanne was fired from her own reboot after sending out a racist tweet months ago.

“She is missed, definitely,” the 66-year-old actor told Jimmy. “After that many years, it’s like a family. Last year was so miraculous and so unreal that when it went away it was almost like a dream. I thought, ‘Okay, I’ll be a big boy and handle this,’ and I just crashed for a couple of weeks.”

“Last year was so miraculous and so unreal that when it went away it was almost like a dream,” John continued. “She gave up a lot for us to be able to do this show and I can’t thank her enough.”

The Conners premieres on ABC Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. on ABC!

John Goodman Says He Was Depressed After 'Roseanne' Cancellation

John Goodman is giving his first extensive interview after the cancellation of Roseanne due to the star Roseanne Barr‘s racist tweet.

“I was broken-hearted, but I thought, ‘OK, it’s just show business, I’m going to let it go. But I went through a period, about a month, where I was very depressed. I’m a depressive anyway, so any excuse that I can get to lower myself, I will. But that had a great deal to do with it, more than I wanted to admit,” John told The Times.

John added about the huge reaction to the racist tweet, “I was surprised. I’ll put it this way, I was surprised at the response. And that’s probably all I should say about it. I know, I know, for a fact that she’s not a racist.”

About the new reboot, The Conners, Roseanne signed over all her rights.

“She had to sign a paper saying that she relinquished all her rights to the show so that we could go on. I sent her an email and thanked her for that,” he said. “I did not hear anything back, but she was going through hell at the time. And she’s still going through hell.”
