Lindsey Vonn Gets Candid About Her Decision to Retire From Skiing

Lindsey Vonn is opening up about her decision to retire from skiing in a feature for Glamour, out now.

Here’s what the 34-year-old most decorated female skier of all time had to say…

On her decision: “I’ve always said, ‘When I can’t ski how I want to ski, that’s when it’s time to finish.’

On pushing through: “Even when the injuries and the crashes seemed to pile up, I never changed. I never was afraid…it’s how I was able to continue to win. But it’s also been the biggest downfall.”

On hitting back at the media: “A billion times, the media said I’d been injured too much, I’m not good enough, I’m washed up. I’m too old or too broken. That I need a strong man. That I can’t do this. Stockpile the hate and use it as fuel.”

On what’s next: “I want people to know I view my career as beyond successful. I never gave up.”

Novak Djokovic Reveals He Almost Retired from Tennis

Novak Djokovic kisses his award while posing backstage at the 2019 Laureus World Sports Awards on Monday (February 18) in Monaco.

The 31-year-old tennis player, who was joined at the event by his wife Jelena, made a surprising revelation while accepting the Laureus Sportsman of the Year Award.

Novak says he almost retired from tennis while dealing with injuries last year.

“I did think about leaving tennis,” he said (via Yahoo). “I did not find myself in a good balance. It took me several months to find that purpose and meaning again.”

“This award reflects and symbolizes this journey. Reflecting on it standing here now it seems like a fairy-tale story but it tells me one thing,” Novak added. “In those moments of when you are facing adversity and challenged you should always look inside. I did not understand that fully before but now I know where I can always find strength and belief and to keep on going.”

Lindsey Vonn Announces Her Retirement From Ski Racing

Lindsey Vonn‘s ski racing career is officially ending.

After first revealing her plans to retire from the sport late last year, the 34-year-old World Cup-winning athlete wrote a note confirming her retirement on Friday (February 1).

“The past two weeks have been some of the most emotionally challenging days of my life. I am struggling with the reality of what my body is telling me versus what my mind and heart believe I’m capable of. The unfortunate reality is my mind and body are not on the same page. After many sleepless nights, I have finally accepted that I cannot continue ski racing. I will compete at the World Championships in Downhill and Super-G next week in Åre, Sweden and they will be the final races of my career,” she wrote.

“Thank you for the amazing years, for supporting me through thick and thin, and for making my job so fun. Can’t wait to see some of you in the finish in Are where I will give it my all one last time.”

Although Lindsey previously said she wouldn’t retire until breaking the record for most World Cup wins, she’s since changed her mind.

“This is going to be my last season. Definitely retiring after this year. If I could break the record that would be amazing, if I can’t it has been a great ride and I am still the most successful female and I still think that’s something to be really proud of,” she said.

Lindsey has won 82 World Cup races in her career, and is considered the most successful American ski racer.
