Netflix Renews 'Russian Doll' for Season 2!

Russian Doll is officially coming back for a second season!

The hit Netflix series will return for Season 2, the streaming service confirmed on Tuesday (June 11).

The series, which stars co-creator Natasha Lyonne, will return with eight new episodes. The release date has not yet been revealed.

In the series, Natasha stars as Nadia Vulvokov, a coder who is forced to re-live her 36th birthday on a nightmarish loop when she keeps dying and coming back to life.

“We definitely pitched it as this three-season idea and yet it’s so interesting to think about how that shapes and morphs in the time since making it. Who knows if we’ll be lucky enough to go back down the rabbit hole. That’s tomorrow’s question. But I think we have some ideas,” Natasha previously said of the show.

Natasha Lyonne recently opened up about leaning towards a “darker” type of cinema. See what she said!

Natasha recently opened up about always having had a natural leaning towards a “darker” and “male” form of cinema.

“I loved a Madeline Kahn. I was more focusing on, especially as I became a teenager, like a Peter Fox or the Seymour Cassels. Or what’s Gene Wilder doing? Or who is this Mel Brooks?,” Natasha Lyonne expressed (via Variety). “I think as a kid I wasn’t even sure if I was more obsessed with what Scorsese was up to or DeNiro. I was always sort of so consumed by both but I naturally leaned towards sort of toward a darker, male, kind of a thing.”

Natasha Lyonne on Return to Hollywood: 'I'm Inspired to Keep Going'

Natasha Lyonne is all smiles as she speaks onstage at Inside The Writer’s Room of Netflix’s Russian Doll panel event held at the Writers Guild Theater on Wednesday (June 5) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Natasha recently sat down for THR‘s comedy actress roundtable, and opened up about taking time out of the spotlight for a number of years to recover.

“The truth is it gave me time to re-assimilate as an adult human, being in the arts, and figure out who do I want to be in this game?,” she said. “What do I want to say? What do I want to do? What do I care about?”

Natasha added, she feels “very lucky” to have stepped away from Hollywood, saying, “Now I’m inspired to keep going, rather than feeling like they burnt me out. Now we’re getting to make our things, so it feels very different.”

Natasha Lyonne Says 'Now is the Time for Women to Band Together on Every Level'

Natasha Lyonne hits the stage to speak during the For Your Consideration screening and panel for her hit Netflix series Russian Doll held at the UCB Sunset Theater on (June 3) in Los Angeles.

The 40-year-old actress was joined at the event by her co-creators Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland.

Natasha recently opened about women working together being important when creating content for themselves: “There was previously this very limited idea for a female character where endgame must be finding ‘him,’ she said (via Variety). “But once you eliminate that, there are so many other moves that that character can make. In a deeper sense there are so many bigger ways to write when it’s all of us together.”

“There’s surrealism to the fact that on the one hand you’re reading the news and it’s like, ‘Let’s squash women’s rights; let’s get rid of Roe V. Wade; I think that’s causing trouble,’ but on the other hand, women in film! Which is it?,” Natasha added. “There’s sort of a battle right now being fought between how this is going to end up. Is this going to end up with a loss of rights? It creates this team spirit of, ‘We must side with each other; we must hold each other up.’ Now is the time to band together on every level, and yes professionally as well.”
