Jerry Seinfeld 'Didn't See Why It Was Necessary' to Fire Roseanne Barr - Find Out Why

Jerry Seinfeld is weighing in on the cancellation of Roseanne, and her subsequent firing from the network after they picked up a spinoff featuring other characters.

“I didn’t see why it was necessary to fire her,” Jerry said of Roseanne Barr. “Why would you murder someone who’s committing suicide?”

“But I never saw someone ruin their entire career with one button push. That was fresh,” he added.

“I think they should get another Roseanne,” Jerry said of hiring another woman to play the role. “They brought Dan Conner back, he was dead and they brought him back. So, why can’t we get another Roseanne? There’s other funny women that could do that part. You need to get the comic in there. I hate to see a comic lose a job.”

Roseanne Barr Releases Statement After 'Roseanne' Spinoff News

Roseanne Barr is addressing the news that a Roseanne spinoff is officially coming to ABC without her.

The 65-year-old actress released a statement addressing the new show titled The Conners after ABC announced that she will have no financial or creative involvement in the new series after reaching a settlement with series producer Tom Werner.

“I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from Roseanne,” Roseanne said in a statement. “I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved.”

ABC hasn’t revealed how Roseanne‘s character will be written off the show, but describes the family having to deal with a “sudden turn of event.”

Last month, ABC cancelled the Roseanne spinoff after Roseanne sent out a racist tweet about President Obama‘s adviser Valerie Jarrett.

The Conners is set to premiere this fall.

John Goodman Breaks Silence After 'Roseanne' Cancellation

John Goodman broke his silence on the Roseanne cancellation after Roseanne Barr‘s racist tweet caused ABC to suspend the show for good.

ET Online caught up with John, who played Roseanne’s husband Dan on the show, who said he would “rather say nothing than to cause more trouble.” About his well-being, he added, “Everything’s fine.”

On the news of the controversial tweet, John said, “I don’t know anything about it. I don’t read it.”

John was also asked about ABC canceling the show’s Emmys For Your Consideration campaign.

“I wasn’t gonna get an Emmy anyway,” he said. “I’ve been up there [11] times already, and if I didn’t get one I’m not gonna get one.”

And about the possibility of any spinoffs happening, he responded, “You’ve heard more than I have.”

Roseanne Barr's Ex-Husband Tom Arnold Says She 'Wanted' ABC to Cancel Her Show

“It had to happen. And I am going to tell you the truth, she wanted it to happen, if you saw how her tweets escalated this weekend. If it hadn’t happened yesterday, this season would have been so awful for everyone every day because she would have felt like she was [being] taken advantage [of], just like when I left the show.”

“ABC lost maybe $1 billion from this; this show was grinding out money hand over fist and they lost it all because somebody didn’t say ‘Get that phone out of her hand,’” he said of the situation.

“She’s not going to go on TV and say these things. But you put that phone in her hand, and she is a loose cannon,” he added.

Tom also says he recommended taking the phone away from Roseanne during the first season.

“I said look, someone has got to tell her that Donald Trump doesn’t carry his own phone. He may say the tweet, but someone is typing it in…she needed someone to wrangle her in and take her phone.”

“I wrote a whole thing for her a month ago and sent it over [to the crew] that said ‘I am going to take a step back, it was fun at first, but now I can see how much negativity there is out there and people are getting hurt and I am going to take a step back and I am hoping my fans will too.’ And then if her crazy tweets came out, she could point to that and say, ‘But I have taken a step back.’”
