Russell Crowe Reveals the Reason He Turned Down 'Lord of the Rings' - Watch!

Russell Crowe is revealing why he decided to turn down a role in the Lord of the Rings series.

The 55-year-old actor made an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, where he discussed turning down the role of Aragorn, which eventually went to Viggo Mortensen.

“Because I didn’t think Peter Jackson actually wanted me on the film. Because I think he was forced into talking to me because there was a moment in time when everybody wanted me in everything and he’s a fellow New Zealander and so I can hear his voice. I’m talking to him on the phone and it’s like, I didn’t think he even knows what I’ve done and I just knew that my instinct was that he had somebody else in mind, which turned out to be Viggo and he should be allowed to hire the actor that he wants,” he explained.

He also said he doesn’t have any regrets about his choice, and only ever thinks about missing out on the paycheck when it’s brought up in interviews.

Russell Crowe Says 'Prosthetic Process was 6 Hours' for Roger Ailes Role in 'Loudest Voice'!

Russell Crowe made a stop to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday night (June 20) and talked all about becoming unrecognizable as Roger Ailes for his new series, The Loudest Voice!

In Showtime’s The Loudest Voice, the rise and fall of Roger Ailes are chronicled with Crowe taking on the leading role of the late Fox News founder.

“When we first started, the prosthetic process was 6 hours, but over time we got it down,” Russell explained, later explaining that the quickest he was able to transform into character was two hours and 17 minutes.

Russell also revealed he had to wear two bald caps, a full neck piece and heavy prosthetic: “When you sweat, sooner or later as water has its will and way, it just starts to spurt out of you,” he admitted. “You’ll be sitting and having a conversation and you can see in the eyes of the person your talking to that something dramatic just happened.”

The series is based on Gabriel Sherman‘s bestselling book, The Loudest Voice in the Room, which included interviews with more than 600 people.

Naomi Watts stars as Gretchen Carlson, Sienna Miller is Roger‘s wife Elizabeth, Seth MacFarlane stars as Brian Lewis, Simon McBurney is Rupert Murdoch, Annabelle Wallis is Laurie Luhn and Aleksa Palladino is Roger‘s longtime assistant Judy Laterza.

Here’s a plot summary: in today’s politically charged media landscape, no figure looms larger, even after his passing, than Roger Ailes, who molded Fox News into a force that irrevocably changed the conversation about the highest levels of government. To understand the events that led to the rise of the modern Republican Party, one must understand Ailes. The upcoming limited series takes on that challenge, focusing primarily on the past decade in which Ailes arguably became the Republican Party’s de facto leader, while also touching on defining events in Ailes’ life, including his experiences with world leaders that gave birth to Ailes’ political career and the sexual harassment accusations and settlements that brought his Fox News reign to an end. The series aims to shed light on the psychology that drives the political process from the top down.
