Russell Tovey Makes His Singing Debut in ‘View from the Bridge’

Russell Tovey poses on the carpet while attending the opening night after party for the new Broadway production of A View From the Bridge on Thursday (November 12) at Guastavino’s restaurant in New York City.

The 33-year-old British actor, who is best known for his role on HBO’s Looking, was joined by his co-stars Mark Strong, Phoebe Fox, Nicola Walker, and more.

Russell revealed to Billboard that he makes his singing debut in the play.

“I’ve never been paid to sing. I’ve sung on a karaoke stage. A lot. But have I sung where someone’s been giving me a wage? No,” Russell said. “Well, actually, we sang a tiny bit in The History Boys, didn’t we? We had kind of like, ‘Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye’ songs, with a little bit of a routine. But this is… I mean, ['Paper Doll'] is only like five lines, and then my character gets cut off. But, it’s a nice five lines, and it kind of comes out of nowhere. So, yeah, it’s been fun.”

Jonathan Groff & His 'Looking' Co-Stars Make the 'Out' 100 List!

Jonathan Groff, Murray Bartlet, Russell Tovey of the hit HBO show Looking have made the list of this year’s Out 100 Honorees!

“The show took its time to set up the characters and story lines last year,” Jonathan, 29, said to the mag about the second season of the show. “This season moves at a faster pace. A lot happens quickly.”

“Photo shoots can be so awkward, so I just play pretend like I’m a little kid. Growing up, we had a bin of costumes – an old man or Peter Pan or a princess or whatever – and to get outside the weirdness I just think, This is like dress-up time,” Jonathan added.

FYI: Looking co-stars Raúl Castillo and Frankie J. Alvarez, who are straight, did not rank among the Out 100, but are still loved by the mag!
