Serena Williams Pulls Out of French Open 2020 Due to Injury

Serena Williams is unfortunately pulling out of the 2020 French Open.

The 39-year-old tennis star officially withdrew from the competition on Wednesday (September 30) after suffering an Achilles injury.

“Struggling to walk,” Serena said of the injury. “So that’s kind of a tell-tale sign that I should try to recover.”

“I feel like my body is actually doing really, really well, and I just ran into, for lack of a better word, bad timing and bad luck, really, in New York,” Serena said, adding that she doesn’t think it will effect her long term. “It happened, but my body is actually doing really, really well.”

Serena Williams was unfortunately defeated in the semi-finals of the US open earlier this month. She did make history at the tennis tournament, despite not making it to the finals.

Serena Williams Makes U.S. Open History with Latest Win at Arthur Ashe Stadium!

Serena Williams celebrates after her big win during the 2020 U.S. Open on Monday (September 7) at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City.

The 38-year-old tennis star became the first tennis player to reach 100 wins at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the home of the U.S. Open.

Serena has won 100 matches and lost 13 of them. The player with the second-most amount of wins is Roger Federer with 77 wins.

During the match, Serena defeated Greek player Maria Sakkari to proceed to the quarter-finals of the U.S. Open.

Serena has won the women’s singles tournament at the U.S. Open in 1999, 2002, 2008, 2012, 2013, and 2014. She came in second place the last two years.

Serena Williams Gets Support from Daughter Olympia & Husband Alexis Ohanian at U.S. Open 2020!

Serena Williams‘ daughter is cheering on her mom!

The 38-year-old tennis pro’s husband Alexis Ohanian brought along 3-year-old daughter Alexis Olympia to support Serena during her match at the 2020 U.S. Open on Saturday afternoon (September 5) at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.

The 37-year-old Reddit co-founder stayed safe in a face mask that had “Girl Dad” written across it as attended the match.

Serena ending up defeating fellow American tennis player Sloane Stephens 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.

“I hope she saw her mama fighting,” Serena said after her win. “I don’t think she was playing attention between you and me. I think she was playing with some princesses upstairs.”

Serena Williams Will Help Donate Over 4 Million Face Masks to Schools Across America

Serena Williams is helping out students stay safe amid the ongoing health pandemic.

The 38-year-old tennis superstar has partnered with Bella + Canvas, the National School Board Association, and Scholastic to help provide over four million face masks to 115,000 underserved schools across the United States.

“Getting back to school this fall means having #masksforkids to wear,” Serena wrote on Instagram. “I’m teaming up with @bellacanvas, the National School Board Association and @scholasticinc to donate 4.25 million masks to underserved schools and provide educational materials about masks to 54 million students and all 115,00 schools in the United States.”

Along with the masks, the program will also be providing educational materials to the schools.

“Through the #MasksForKids program, schools can access affordable masks and educational materials, quickly,” Serena continued. “In addition to donating 4.25 million masks, another mask will be donated for each one purchased by the schools. I’m grateful to be able to help educate our schools about this resource, and to be given the opportunity to serve so many students.”

The 39-year-old Academy Award-winning actress spoke about her role in the upcoming Marvel movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, during a chat with Serena Williams in an Instagram Live session.

If you didn’t know, Natalie will be the first female to play the iconic character – and will not be going by “Lady Thor.”

“She’s actually The Mighty Thor. The comics had the female Thor when Jane becomes Thor, and she’s The Mighty Thor,” Natalie clarified.

“We haven’t started. More time to get jacked. Which I have not. I’ve got the carbo-loading down, but not the exercise part,” Natalie explained of the upcoming film schedule, which was postponed amid the global health crisis.

She went on to say she is “very excited” for the new film, which she said will begin shooting in Australia in early 2021.

“Obviously everything is weird because of pandemic time, who knows what’s happening. It will be exciting and I’m interested to see if I can gain muscle.”

She also revealed her favorite Marvel character: Tessa Thompson‘s Valkyrie, who will also appear in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Serena Williams is raising the next big tennis pro!

The 38-year-old athlete shared adorable pictures and photos alongside her 2-year-old daughter Alexis Olympia out at a tennis court on Thursday (July 2) on her Instagram.

The two dressed up in matching purple athletic outfits, and Alexis was seen crouching down just like her mother – even giving her a high five!

“Caption this (MUST SWIPE RIGHT),” Serena wrote.

“I just love her and you too much! If this gets any cuter I will NOT LIVE!” her sister Venus Williams commented, while her husband Alexis Ohanian wrote: “Six pack baby stroooooong ❤️.”

Serena confirmed that she’ll be playing at this tennis championship amid the pandemic.

Serena Williams Confirms She's Playing in US Open 2020

We got word that the 2020 US Open tennis championship would be happening this year – with major precautions – and now, Serena Williams is confirming she will compete!

“So this announcement has been on my mind all day, but ultimately I really cannot wait to return in New York and play the U.S. Open 2020,” Serena said in a video. “I feel like the USTA is going to do a really good job of ensuring everything is amazing and everything is perfect and everyone is safe. It’s going to be exciting. It’s been over six months since a lot of us have played professional tennis.”

“I’ll certainly miss the fans, don’t get me wrong, just being out there and that New York crowd and hear everyone cheer,” Serena added, noting that they will be playing to empty stadiums.. “I’ll really miss that and getting me through some of those tough matches. But, this is crazy. I’m excited.”
