The 37-year-old Westworld actress opened up in an interview for Town & Country Magazine. Here’s what she had to say…

On stepping outside of her comfort zone: “I think that’s why I like what I do. I’ve always felt a little afraid of what happens when we get too comfortable, that we’re not growing. Maybe I’m a masochist or maybe I’m a sucker for the discomfort of the first squeak.”

On hoping to inspire others and speaking out on a set: “…there’s invariably people in the room that have been silenced. I remember a distinct moment on set. A squeak just came out of me, I didn’t even mean for it to, and then I could see the secret little smile on some of the women around the room, and you realize that there’s a choir of wheels waiting to squeak together. It emboldens folks, and you realize you have support and you’re not squeaking just on your own behalf. You’re squeaking for everybody.”

On her new development deal at HBO and thinking about ownership of work: “That’s my favorite thing to think about, particularly in building this company. Thinking around the voices I invite into it, how I allow them to retain as much ownership over their work and their ideas as possible…I’m really interested in trying to create a utopia. It’s imperative, because I’m curious about being able to give opportunity to folks that people might say are less experienced. A lot of people are batting a lot higher than their average because they just, frankly, haven’t been given the opportunity.”

It was recently revealed that Tessa just got into a car accident, but she’s okay.

Tessa Thompson is opening up about the rocky way she ended 2020.

The 37-year-old actress made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday (January 7) to talk about her new Amazon movie Sylvie’s Love and she talked about the car accident she got into on New Year’s Eve.

“I drove up a mountain to go to a cabin, and I thought, ‘This will be totally safe because I won’t see anybody.’ But I got into a car accident, so I did have a socially distanced interaction,” Tessa told Jimmy.

Tessa got into an accident with a “big monster truck” while on the high way, but she says now, “I’m safe, obviously, and actually, the driver was very lovely in the end.”

“After this year I feel such gratitude for being alive. It was sort of the sweetest, loveliest accident of all the ones I’ve had in a way,” Tessa added. “But also it made total sense: It’s the only way to end this year would be to get into a car accident.”

When Jimmy joked that the accident sounds like the “beginning of a romantic film,” Tessa responded by saying, “We didn’t exchange numbers, we just exchanged insurance information. And everyone’s okay.”

Tessa recently revealed some exciting news about the upcoming third Creed movie!

Michael B. Jordan will be making his directorial debut with the upcoming third Creed movie!

The 33-year-old actor’s co-star Tessa Thompson confirmed the news while talking to MTV News about her new Amazon movie Sylvie’s Love.

Tessa was asked about Michael‘s new status as People’s Sexiest Man Alive. She said, “I haven’t talked to him about it because I’m gonna pretend it hasn’t happened. We’re gonna make another Creed very soon, and I don’t need the sexiest man alive to…you know what I mean, I just don’t need it. I don’t need any of it. It’s too much for me to shoulder. It’s too much for me to handle.”

Tessa then confirmed Michael will direct the next Creed movie.

“He is directing the next Creed. It’s going to be ammo, I think, for me, when he is engaging with me as a director. I’m just going to tell him to dial down the sexiness. But we’re not gonna make it until later in the year. So who knows what happens? Another man will be – I don’t know if he will still be the Sexiest Man Alive in six months,” she said.

The first Creed was released in 2015 and grossed $173 million worldwide. The second movie was released in 2018 and grossed $214 million worldwide.

The 37-year-old Thor: Ragnorak actress and the 39-year-old football player turned actor, who is also married to Kerry Washington, star in the upcoming 1950s romance movie heading to Amazon Prime Video this holiday season.

Amazon’s Sylvie’s Love synopsis reads: “Robert (Asomugha), a saxophonist, spends late nights playing behind a less-talented but well-known bandleader as member of a jazz quartet. Sylvie (Thompson), who dreams of a career in television, spends her summer days helping around her father’s record store, as she waits for her fiancé to return from war. When Robert takes a part-time job at the record store, the two begin a friendship that sparks a deep passion in each of them unlike anything they have felt before.”

“As the summer winds down, life takes them in different directions, bringing their relationship to an end,” the synopsis continues. “Years pass, Sylvie’s career as a TV producer blossoms, while Robert has to come to terms with what the age of Motown is doing to the popularity of Jazz. In a chance meeting, Sylvie and Robert cross paths again, only to find that while their lives have changed, their feelings for each other remain the same.”

Sylvie’s Love will begin streaming worldwide December 25 on Amazon Prime Video!

Tessa Thompson is opening up about the importance of representation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The 36-year-old actress, who played Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame, wants to see people of every race, sexual orientation, and ability in the movies.

“The truth is these movies travel globally in such huge ways, and if you can represent people that are of color, if you can represent people with disabilities, if you can represent the LGBTQIA community inside of these films, it’s a pretty big deal,” Tessa said during an interview for Variety‘s Actors on Actors series.

Tessa added, “I think it’s really important for everybody, but for young people especially, to be able to show up to those movies and see projections of themselves. So I’m really excited that we’re able to continue to push the bounds of that and that I’m able to do that with Valkyrie. Because there’s so many cool queer characters in the comic books, and they should have a place on screen.”

Anthony Mackie, who plays Falcon in the MCU, just called out Marvel for lack of diversity and pointed out what is “more racist than anything else.”

During their conversation, Tessa opened up about her experience auditioning for the hit HBO show.

“I joined Westworld at the end of Season 1. I sent in an audition tape for the pilot. I was trying to figure out how to play a robot, and then I didn’t get a call back. I never heard anything about it. Much later, there was this chance to play a human on the show. My first scenes were with Jeffrey Wright and with Anthony Hopkins. It felt surreal to occupy this space where I had the power over them. That was bizarre,” she reflected.

She also addressed what’s ahead for her character – and having sex with a robot.

“I had broad ideas: ‘What does power look like in the future, in a young woman of color?’ But the only thing I knew is that I would potentially have sex with a robot. We talked about this woman sampling the merchandise in the park — that would be her expression of power. I continue not to know where the show’s going to take me,” she said.

Westworld creators recently revealed that this character is gone after the Season 3 finale.

Tessa Thompson wears a cool mask while attending the Juneteenth Pop Up event held at Bloom & Plume in Los Angeles over the weekend.

The event was held in celebration of Quibi’s series, Centerpiece, which focuses on Maurice Harris, who also owns Bloom & Plume.

Centerpiece “explores the nature of creativity with celebrity guests as they go deep into what drives their passion, creativity and spirit to create mind-blowing floral art installations.”

The floral installation at the Pop Up was 12 feet tall, included 5,000 carnations, 50 eremurus and 50 allium flowers.

There were also name plaques on two sides of the structure, which were in honor of unarmed Black victims who have been killed by police over the years.

Centerpiece is streaming now on Quibi.
