Netflix Star Devon Terrell Opens Up About Playing King Arthur in 'Cursed'

Devon Terrell is giving new life to King Arthur in Netflix‘s new fantasy series, Cursed.

The 27-year-old actor, who you might recognize from Barry where he played a young Barack Obama, is opening up about taking on another legendary leader on the small screen.

“They’re both super intimidating,” Devon shared with E! in a new interview about those two big roles.

Devon added that the role as a young Obama was a lot of pressure because “he’d come out of finishing his time in the office. Everyone knew that character, everyone had an idea, a lot of people had played it, so it was a lot of pressure.”

While speaking about Arthur, who he did a lot of research on before filming, Devon says that it’s “exciting to have the opportunity as a person of color to play this role.”

“As a young Black man, it was one of those things where I never expected this opportunity to come, so to get the opportunity to do that, I wanted to make an authentic, vulnerable character who people gravitated towards and who people could understand could become this myth and this legend,” he added.

Netflix's 'Cursed' Gets Trailer & July Release Date - Watch Now!

Here’s your first look at Cursed, which is set to be released on Netflix on July 17!

Based on the New York Times bestselling book, Cursed is a re-imagination of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of Nimue, a young woman with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake. After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a humble mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther. Cursed is a coming-of-age story whose themes are familiar to our own time: the obliteration of the natural world, religious terror, senseless war, and finding the courage to lead in the face of the impossible.

The series stars Katherine Langford (Nimue), Devon Terrell (Arthur), Gustaf Skarsgård (Merlin), Daniel Sharman (Weeping Monk), Sebastian Armesto (King Uther Pendragon), Matt Stokoe (Gawain), Lily Newmark (Pym), Shalom Brune-Franklin (Igraine), Emily Coates (Sister Iris), Billy Jenkins (Squirrel), Bella Dayne (Red Spear), and Peter Mullan (Father Carden).
