Terry Crews Debates Purpose of Black Lives Matter With CNN's Don Lemon

Don Lemon and Terry Crews went back and forth on the debate over Black Lives Matter during Monday night’s episode of CNN Tonight.

The CNN commentator and AGT host debated about the true intentions of the BLM movement and the reason Terry‘s recent tweets have been the subject of many other debates.

“The Black Lives Matter movement was started because it was about police brutality,” Don said. “If you want an All Black Lives Matter movement that talks about gun violence in…Black communities, then start that movement with that name. But that’s not what Black Lives Matter is about.”

“If someone started a movement that said Cancer Matters and then someone comes in and says, ‘Why aren’t you talking about HIV’, it’s not the same thing,” he added.

Terry disagreed, saying, “Here’s the thing. It’s a great mantra. It’s a true mantra. Black lives do matter but when you’re talking about an organization, you’re talking about the leaders, you’re talking about the people who are responsible for putting these things together.”

“Black people need to hold other Black people accountable. This is the Black America’s version of the MeToo movement. If anything is going to change, our ourselves need to look at our own communities and look at each other and say this thing cannot go down,” he added.

Terry has been called out by many fans and notable celebrities for his controversial tweets on the situation.

Dave Chappelle Calls Out Don Lemon In New '8:46' Comedy Special & Don Responds

Don Lemon agrees with everything that Dave Chappelle said in his new comedy special for Netflix, called 8:46, in honor of George Floyd.

In the special, Dave called out Don who put big name celebrities on blast for not using their platform to speak out on racial injustice issues.

“This is the streets talking for themselves. They don’t need me right now. I kept my mouth shut. But don’t think that my silence is complicit…Why would anyone care what their favorite comedian thinks after they saw a police officer kneel on a man’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds?” Dave said in the special.

Don responded to the dig, and agreed with him on his stance.

“I actually agree with Dave Chappelle,” he on CNN’s New Day. “I think that the young people who are out there in the streets don’t really care what we [in the establishment] have to say.”

Don continued, “[This is] a moment that we should all be using our platform to do whatever we can…but he’s talking about this issue, and I think it’s great. He’s using his platform to talk about this in the way that he can.”

Don Lemon Calls Out a Bunch of Celebrities Amid Protests: 'Step Up'

CNN anchor Don Lemon is calling on celebrities to use their voices amid protests of George Floyd‘s killing in Minneapolis last week.

“A lot of people I ask to come on this show, to talk about this, [such as] wealthy celebrities, wealthy political people, [say], ‘I can’t do it. I’m mad. I don’t want people to see me mad. It might hurt my business. I’m so upset that I had to go to my country house.’ Where are you? Why aren’t you fighting for these young people? If you don’t do it now, when are you going to do it? … if you are a millionaire or a gazillionare or a movie star or a politician and you don’t step up now, when the hell are you going to do it?” Don said. “I hate that. You are your brand. Step up, people. Step up, Black Hollywood…Beyoncé released a message, you can’t?”

Amid the Black Lives Matter movement, Don continued, “By me calling out your name, that doesn’t mean I’m calling you out, it means I love you Ellen. It means I love you Oprah. I know they give millions to dollars to charity every year, but I mean your visibility in helping speak out for these people.”

“I want to see you Tracee Ellis Ross, I want to see you Tyler Perry. I want to see you Drake. I want to see you, my friend Anthony Anderson. I love you, I love all of you, I want to see you doing this,” he added. “I want to see you Diddy. I want to see you Jane Fonda, who I love and respect. Do something, help change racism in this country.”

Don Lemon Breaks Down Talking About Chris Cuomo's Diagnosis

Don Lemon broke down live on the air during his CNN show when talking about another anchor at the network, Chris Cuomo, who was diagnosed as one of the New Yorkers fighting against the global health pandemic.

At the end of a segment, CNN analyst Bianna Golodryga told Don, “You try to be stoic and focus on the headlines—it’s tough, it’s tough. I also feel for Chris and I know it’s tough for you and we’re all fighting and rooting for him tonight.”

Don then grabbed a tissue and got emotional.

“I said I wasn’t going to do this. Jesus. He’s probably sitting at home laughing at me. So, here’s the thing—when I walk into work every day—Chris and I are really good friends, we live near each other—so, when I walk into work every day, I have to walk by where Chris is, so I usually go to his office and then I say, you know, what’s doing, sometimes I bring in the dogs and we just say hello,” Don said.
