'Head of The Class' Reboot Starring Isabella Gomez Gets Picked Up by HBO Max

It’s official – Head of The Class is coming back!

HBO Max has picked up the re-imagined, gender-swapped reboot for 10 episodes, Deadline reported on Wednesday (March 31).

Several months ago, it was announced that One Day at a Time actress Isabella Gomez will be starring in the reboot.

The original Head of The Class ran on ABC from 1986 to 1991, and followed a group of students at the fictional Millard Fillmore High School in Manhattan and their history teacher Charlie Moore, played by Howard Hesseman.

The reboot will revolve around a group of overachieving high school students who meet their greatest challenge — a first-time teacher, Alicia Adams (Gomez), who wants them to focus less on grades and more on experiencing life.

Isabella‘s Alicia is a whip-smart, funny, blunt high school teacher we all wish we had. A former GPA junkie, Alicia thought she had the world all figured out when she was in school. Teaching for the first time, Alicia’s is figuring out what she really wants in life.

Find out who else has been cast in the upcoming new show, which will begin production this summer.

'One Day at a Time' Cancelled By Netflix & They're Explaining the Reason Why

One Day at a Time has been cancelled by Netflix, and the streaming service is explaining why they made the decision to cancel the show after three seasons.

“We’ve made the very difficult decision not to renew One Day At A Time for a fourth season. The choice did not come easily — we spent several weeks trying to find a way to make another season work but in the end simply not enough people watched to justify another season,” the streaming service explained in a series of tweets.

“To Justina Machado, Todd Grinnell, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rita Moreno: thank you for inviting us into your family. You filled this show with so much heart and warmth and love, it truly felt like home,” Netflix added. “And to anyone who felt seen or represented — possibly for the first time — by ODAAT, please don’t take this as an indication your story is not important. The outpouring of love for this show is a firm reminder to us that we must continue finding ways to tell these stories.”
