Joanna and Chip Gaines are opening up in a new, in-depth interview with The Hollywood Reporter, ahead of their television network, Magnolia Network, launching.
The married couple and parents to five talked about facing hurtful criticism head on.
Most of the criticism stems from their HGTV show, Fixer Upper, never featuring a same sex couple and how the show featured a conversation with a local pastor who has openly denounced LGBTQ rights.
“The accusations that get thrown at you, like you’re a racist or you don’t like people in the LGBTQ community, that’s the stuff that really eats my lunch — because it’s so far from who we really are. That’s the stuff that keeps me up.”

One of HGTV’s most popular renovation series, Fixer Upper, is coming back and moving to a brand new network!
Married couple and renovation experts Chip and Joanna Gaines revealed that they’ll be reviving the show on their new television network, Magnolia.
“The day we wrapped our final episode of Fixer Upper, we really believed it was a chapter closed. We knew we needed a break and a moment to catch our breath. But we also knew we weren’t done dreaming about ways to make old things new again,” the couple shared in a statement.
They added, “These past few years, we’ve continued tackling renovations and projects, doing the work we’re passionate about, but I don’t think either of us anticipated how the show would become such a permanent fixture in our hearts. We’ve missed sharing the stories of these families and their homes with you, and we’re excited to do that again very soon!”
Fixer Upper was cable television’s number 1 unscripted series during its initial run, with 75 million viewers tuning in for the episodes.
The series will return in 2021 when Magnolia launches.
If you missed it, Chip and Joanna just recently had a tough conversation on racial injustice with their five children and football player Emmanuel Acho.
Emmie Gaines asked a big and important question during the latest episode of Emmanuel Acho‘s Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man series.
The 10-year-old daughter of the HGTV stars asked Emmanuel if he was afraid of white people during the open conversation with their entire family.
“That’s what I love about children,” Emmanuel reacted to her question, before calling it a “phenomenal question.”
He added, “I’m not afraid of white people. I am cautious of white people.”
“I think about water and electricity. Water is necessary for life. Electricity is also necessary for life. But I do understand if those two have a negative interaction, it could be lethal,” Emmanuel went on. “The beautiful thing of children and about children is that we learn things as kids and it develops us as adults, which is why you all being here with your children is the most powerful thing because this conversation could be life-changing — and not necessarily for their lives, but for the life of someone who looks like me.”
Chip and Joanna‘s oldest child, Drake, 15, also asked about if Emmanuel thinks things will change.

Joanna Gaines is having too much fun with FaceApp!
The 41-year-old Fixer Upper star showed off her creations in her Instagram Stories on Tuesday (July 16).
“I’m telling @chipganes to start wearing sunscreen,” she joked along with a photo of the aging filter on husband Chip Gaines.
“We are having fun scaring the children,” she added along with a photo of the filter on herself. “I can’t stop.”

Chip Gaines and Joanna Gaines have made a big donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital!
The Fixer Upper stars surprised patients with a $1.5 million check last week in Memphis, Tenn., People reports.
They also presented the St. Jude Target House with a new playhouse that they designed.
The couple reportedly wore bumblebee headbands while hanging out with the children, playing the piano and singing songs, and reading Joanna’s kids book, “We Are the Gardeners.”
Chip and Joanna raised the donations through a social media campaign, #ChipInChallenge, with help from Jennifer Lopez, Alex Rodriguez, Kacey Musgraves, and more.
“When we heard that the space outside of Target House could use a little love, we knew right away that we wanted to create a sweet playhouse for the kids to enjoy,” Joanna Gaines shared. “There’s something so special about spending time together outside and while we’re hopeful that these families will not have to stay here for very long, we wanted to create a retreat for them to explore while they are here.”
“As we walked in today, a little boy told us that he’s ‘demo day-ing’ his cancer treatment and that’s pretty much the best thing I’ve ever heard,” Chip Gaines added. “In our world, demo day marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of a newer, more exciting one. And that’s exactly what we want for you — we’re pulling for each and every one of you.”

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez jetted off to Waco, Texas to hang out with two of HGTV’s biggest stars!
The 43-year-old retired Yankee player took to Instagram on Saturday afternoon (April 27) to share a photo of him and the 49-year-old entertainer hanging out with Chip and Joanna Gaines.
“ARod Corp hits Capital Gaines in Waco, Texas. #CapitalGaines @joannagaines @chipgaines,” Alex captioned the below photo of the two couples.
Jen then commented on the photo writing, “Best anniversary gift ever!!” along with three heart emojis.
This isn’t the first time the two couples have crossed paths.
Back in March, Jen and Joanna were photographed together checking out Jen‘s Malibu home ahead of some renovations.
