Jussie Smollett Opens Up in Rare Interview About His Ongoing Court Case in Chicago

Jussie Smollett gave a rare interview this week, where he spoke about his ongoing court case with journalist Marc Lamont Hill.

The 38-year-old actor couldn’t reveal a lot of details about his ongoing legal issues, however, he did mention that it has been difficult to keep quiet in the situation.

“It’s been beyond frustrating because to be somebody that’s so outspoken… it’s been difficult to be so quiet. To not be able to say all of the things that you want to say, to not be able to yell from the rooftop,” Jussie shared.

He continued, “Because, I don’t think people realize that I’ve just been wrapped up in some form of a case for the last, approaching, in just a couple of months approaching two years. It’s been beyond frustrating. I’m certainly not going rogue. I’m still taking the advice of my attorneys and everything like that. But I just don’t see honestly what staying quiet has really done. Where it has gotten me.”

Jussie also admits that he doesn’t have the highest of hopes for his next court date.

“They won’t let this go. It doesn’t matter. There is an example being made. And the sad thing is that there’s an example being made of someone that did not do what they’re being accused of,” he said.

If you don’t know, Jussie has been accused for faking a hate crime that happened in 2019, and the city of Chicago also sued the former Empire actor to recoup overtime costs for officers investigating the case.

Just recently, Jussie‘s younger sister, Jurnee, opened up about how the case has affected the family.

Jurnee Smollett Speaks Out About Brother Jussie's Scandal: 'It's Been F---ing Painful'

Jurnee Smollett is opening up about her brother Jussie Smollett‘s scandal in the new issue of The Hollywood Reporter.

The 33-year-old Birds of Prey actress admits that the accusations against him have been painful for their family.

If you recall, Jussie was accused of faking the lynching attempt on him outside his Chicago home, and while he didn’t face charges because it was tossed out in 2018, it was revived in 2019.

Just recently, his case against the city of Chicago was thrown out.

“It’s been f***ing painful,” Jurnee shared. “One of the most painful things my family’s ever experienced — to love someone as much as we love my brother, and to watch someone who you love that much go through something like this, that is so public, has been devastating.”

She mentions that she personally “was already in a very dark space for a number of reasons, and I’ve tried to not let it make me pessimistic. But everyone who knows me knows that I love my brother and I believe my brother.”

Jurnee added, “I mean, f***, man, I look at him sometimes and I’m like, ‘He’s so strong.’ He’s staying creative, as creatives do…singing, writing, working on music.”

This was the latest bombshell brought up in his case with the city of Chicago.

Jussie Smollett Makes Rare Appearance in Public, One Day After Lawsuit Was Thrown Out

Jussie Smollett wears a face mask while stepping out for a smoothie run on Friday afternoon (April 24) in Hollywood.

The 37-year-old former Empire actor was joined by a friend while making a quick run to Jamba Juice.

Jussie has rarely been seen in public after his incident in January 2019, when he alleged that he was assaulted outside of his Chicago apartment. Police later claimed that he had staged the attack, though he still maintains his innocence.

Just this week, a judge tossed the lawsuit that Jussie filed against the city of Chicago for malicious prosecution. The actor will only be able to refile the case if he’s found not guilty in his upcoming trial.

Jussie is still facing charges of lying about the racially charged hate crime.

Jussie Smollett's Lawsuit Against City of Chicago Tossed Out

Jussie Smollett‘s lawsuit that was filed against the city of Chicago will not be moving forward after it was tossed out by a federal judge.

Deadline reports that US District Court Judge Virginia Kendall ruled that the former Empire actor’s claim of malicious prosecution is kaput, for now.

However, Jussie can refile only if he’s found not guilty in his upcoming trial.

He’s facing charges of lying about a racially charged hate crime that took place in early 2019. Jussie has pleaded not guilty.

Jussie Smollett Had a 'Sexual Relationship' With Alleged Attacker at Chicago Bathhouse (Report)

Jussie Smollett was allegedly already “more than friends” with alleged attacker Ambimbola “Abel” Osundairo, according to a new report from Page Six on Tuesday (April 14).

The 37-year-old Empire star reportedly visited an upscale Chicago bathhouse and had a “sexual relationship” with Abel.

“They used to party together and he had a sexual relationship with [Abel]. They went to this affluent Chicago bathhouse multiple times and they had to show ID. It’s known as a bathhouse where a lot of affluent black gay men hang out. There should be a record [of their visits],” an insider told the publication, adding that the bathhouse records could be subpoenaed amid the ongoing investigation into his alleged falsifying of a hate crime, to which he’s pleaded not guilty.

Abel and his brother, Ola, have denied that they are gay and sued Jussie‘s lawyers for defamation after alleging there was a sexual relationship, claiming that comments put their family at risk due to their Nigerian background, where the country’s laws make homosexuality punishable by prison or even death.

“We have sat back and watched lie after lie being fabricated about us in the media only so one big lie can continue to have life. These lies are destroying our character and our reputation in our personal and professional lives,” their attorney, Gloria Schmidt, said in a statement the time.

A judge later dismissed the defamation suit.
