Jurnee Smollett To Lead 'Fuel' Action Movie For Amazon

Jurnee Smollett will star in a brand new action film called Fuel, according to Deadline.

The 34-year-old Lovecraft Country star has teamed up with the HBO show’s EP Misha Green for the movie, which is also being set up as an action vehicle for Jurnee.

With a script being written by Kat Wood, the site reports that the plan is to develop the movie where Jurnee would play a wheel woman, a fresh take on a familiar character.

“The film is an action-packed female empowerment story that will subvert the relationship between cars and masculinity. The heroine is a getaway driver who is coerced into working for a criminal and breaking all the rules she set out for herself,” Deadline says.

Kat and Jurnee will also executive producer along with Misha.

Just recently, Jurnee was seen in Birds of Prey as Dinah Lance/Black Canary. Next up, she’s joining Chris Hemsworth in this Netflix movie.

She was seen at the virtual 2021 Critics Choice Awards this past weekend, as she was a nominee. See what she wore here!

Chris Hemsworth is teaming up with Netflix again, this time for an upcoming movie called Spiderhead.

The 37-year-old actor will star alongside Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett in the upcoming film, which will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, according to Deadline.

Spiderhead, which is based on a short story by George Saunders, “is set in the near future, when convicts are offered the chance to volunteer as medical subjects in hopes of shortening their sentences. The focus is on two prisoners who become the test patients for emotion-altering drugs that force the prisoners to grapple with their pasts in a facility run by a brilliant visionary who supervises the program.”

Chris previously worked with Netflix on the movie Extraction, which was a giant hit for the streaming service.

Joseph will begin working on Spiderhead after wrapping Top Gun: Maverick, which also stars Miles.

In a new interview, the 33-year-old actress chatted about her new show Lovecraft Country with show-creator Misha Green.

During the conversation, Jurnee was asked if she would reprise her role as Black Canary from Birds of Prey in a project helmed from Misha.

“It’s no secret how much I love Black Canary. It’s a dream, character and was a dream to play her,” Jurnee shared with Variety. “If [the] dynamics fell in the right way, I would absolutely do it in a heartbeat, and Lord knows, I follow Misha wherever she leads me.”

Jurnee Smollett Speaks Out About Brother Jussie's Scandal: 'It's Been F---ing Painful'

Jurnee Smollett is opening up about her brother Jussie Smollett‘s scandal in the new issue of The Hollywood Reporter.

The 33-year-old Birds of Prey actress admits that the accusations against him have been painful for their family.

If you recall, Jussie was accused of faking the lynching attempt on him outside his Chicago home, and while he didn’t face charges because it was tossed out in 2018, it was revived in 2019.

Just recently, his case against the city of Chicago was thrown out.

“It’s been f***ing painful,” Jurnee shared. “One of the most painful things my family’s ever experienced — to love someone as much as we love my brother, and to watch someone who you love that much go through something like this, that is so public, has been devastating.”

She mentions that she personally “was already in a very dark space for a number of reasons, and I’ve tried to not let it make me pessimistic. But everyone who knows me knows that I love my brother and I believe my brother.”

Jurnee added, “I mean, f***, man, I look at him sometimes and I’m like, ‘He’s so strong.’ He’s staying creative, as creatives do…singing, writing, working on music.”

This was the latest bombshell brought up in his case with the city of Chicago.
