Norman Lear Thanks TV Icon Carol Burnett While Being Honored with Her Eponymous Award at Golden Globes 2021 - Watch!

Norman Lear has received another huge honor!

The 98-year-old TV writer and producer was honored with the Carol Burnett Award during the 2021 Golden Globes on Sunday (February 28).

The Carol Burnett Award is presented annually to an honoree who has made outstanding contributions to the television medium on or off the screen.

In his acceptance speech, Norman thanked Carol Burnett, for which the award is named, saying “nobody has made me laugh harder.”

Norman went on to thank some of his creative partners over the years, before adding, “then of course, there’s my family – Lyn Davis Lear, five glorious daughters and my wonderful son, ranging in ages from 26 to 74,” as well as “my four fabulous grandchildren.”

“At close to 99, I can tell you that I’ve never lived alone, I’ve never laughed alone and that has as much to do with my being here today as anything else I know,” Norman said.

“And once more, thank you and bless you Carol Burnett for everything you have meant to me by way of joy, surprise, delight and laughter,” Norman added. “So glad we had this time together.”

Norman Lear to Receive Carol Burnett Award at Golden Globes 2021

Norman Lear is being given a prestigious honor.

The 98-year-old television writer and producer will be presented with the Carol Burnett Award at the 2021 Golden Globe Awards, producers announced on Thursday (January 28).

He will be the third-ever recipient and accept the honor during the telecast airing on Sunday, February 28 from 5-8 p.m. PT / 8-11 p.m. ET live on NBC.

Norman Lear is among the most prolific creators of this generation. His career has encompassed both the Golden Age and Streaming Era, throughout which his progressive approach addressing controversial topics through humor prompted a cultural shift that allowed social and political issues to be reflected in television. His work revolutionized the industry and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is honored to name him as the 2021 Carol Burnett Award recipient,” HFPA President Ali Sar said.

The Carol Burnett Award is presented annually to an honoree who has made outstanding contributions to the television medium on or off the screen. It is equivalent to its film accolade counterpart, the Cecil B. deMille Award. Previous recipients include Ellen DeGeneres (2020) and its namesake, Carol Burnett (2019).

Norman Lear‘s credits include All in the Family, Maude, Sanford and Son, Good Times, The Jeffersons, One Day at a Time and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.

Reba McEntire to Star in NBC 'Fried Green Tomatoes' Series!

Reba McEntire is taking on a new role.

The 65-year-old singer and actress is set to star in a series based on Fried Green Tomatoes at NBC, Variety reported Wednesday (October 14).

Here’s a plot summary: “The hour-long drama project is described as a modernization of the novel and movie that explores the lives of descendants from the original work. When present-day Idgie Threadgoode (McEntire) returns to Whistle Stop after a decade away, she must wrestle with a changed town, estranged daughter, faltering cafe and life-changing secret.”

She will also executive produce the show, along with Norman Lear, who was an executive producer on the 1991 film.

Fannie Flagg, author of the original novel Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe and co-writer of the film’s screenplay, will also executive produce.

Allison Janney, Kristin Chenoweth & More Help Honor Comedy Legends at Paley Honors!

Allison Janney, Kristin Chenoweth and Kat Dennings strike a pose on the carpet while attending The Paley Honors: A Special Tribute to Television’s Comedy Legends held on Thursday evening (November 21) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The three ladies were joined at the event by Lisa Kudrow, Kat‘s Dollface co-star Brenda Song, Anthony Anderson, Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien and his wife Liza, Micaela Watkins and her husband Fred, Jane Seymour, Tichina Arnold and Zulay Henao.

Allison and guests were all in attendance in support of the television comedy legend honorees Lily Tomlin, Carol Bernett, Bob Newhart and Norman Lear.

The gala will help fund the creation of the Paley Center’s Comedy Collection, a new part of the Paley Archive that will document programs, artists, and groundbreaking moments from the last 80 years of television comedy.

Greg Berlanti & Ava DuVernay Are the Patron of the Artists Award Recipients This Year!

Greg Berlanti and Ava DuVernay were recipients of the top honor of the night at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s 2019 Patron of the Artists Awards on Thursday (November 7) at the Wallis Annenberg Center of the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, Calif.

They were both presented with the Patron of the Artists Award.

Greg, who is a television producer, showrunner, and director, received his award from legendary producer and writer Norman Lear.

Ava, who is an award-winning writer and director, received her award from actor David Oyelowo, who starred in her movie Selma.

Hank Azaria opened the event with a speech and there were musical performances from Harriet‘s Cynthia Erivo, This Is UsChrissy Metz, former The Voice contestant Wé McDonald, and Grmamy winner Patti Austin.

Chrissy, who stars in the movie Breakthrough, performed a song written for the film by Diane Warren, who joined her at the event.

ABC to Produce Holiday Edition of 'Live in Front of a Studio Audience' Special!

ABC’s Emmy-winning special Live in Front of a Studio Audience is returning for a special holiday edition next month with an all-star cast recreating episodes of All in the Family and Good Times.

Norman Lear, Jimmy Kimmel, Will Ferrell, Justin Theroux, and Brent Miller are returning as executive producers on the project and Kerry Washington has joined the producing team as well. She appeared in The Jeffersons portion of the original special in the spring.

Woody Harrelson and Marisa Tomei starred as Archie and Edith Bunker in the original special, but ABC has not yet announced if they will be returning.

“Being a part of Norman Lear’s world was a career highlight; and working with great actors on these great shows was so much fun, we couldn’t resist tackling a holiday episode of All in the Family and one of my favorites, Good Times,” Jimmy said in a statement.

Norman added, “I don’t know which is greater – bringing back Good Times or co-hosting with Jimmy Kimmel?”

The Live in Front of a Studio Audience special will air on Wednesday, December 18 on ABC.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Jordan Peele received major honors at the BAFTA Britannia Awards!

The duo stepped out at the award ceremony on Friday night (October 25) at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

During the ceremony, Donald Glover presented Phoebe with Artist of the Year while Jordan was given the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing by Lupita Nyong’o.

Other honorees included Norman Lear, presented with the Excellence in Television award by Kerry Washington, and Jackie Chan, who was given the award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment.

Additional attendees included Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, and Jordan‘s wife Chelsea Peretti.
