Broadway Stars Come Together in Times Square, Shutdown to Extend to Mid-2021

So many great Broadway stars came together in New York City this week to film a performance to give people hope for the return of live theater!

Bernadette Peters and Andrew Rannells were among the stars who participated in NYCNext’s A Moment for Broadway event on Wednesday (October 7) in NYC’s Times Square.

Also in attendance were Gavin Creel, Telly Leung, Carolee Carmello, Norm Lewis, Javier Munoz, Joel Grey, Eden Espinosa, Sierra Boggess, Kate Baldwin, Stark Sands, Jennifer Damiano, Ari’el Stachel, Andrea Burns, among others.

Some unfortunate news was just revealed about Broadway.

NBC New York is reporting that the Broadway League is going to announce on Friday that Broadway will not return until May 30, 2021, at the earliest.

Broadway shows have been shut down since March 13, 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The shutdown was supposed to end in January 2021, but now will be extended as the pandemic is still not under control and it’s not safe for thousands of people to sit in an indoor theater together.

The productions that come back to Broadway will return across a series of rolling dates.

Broadway's 'Phantom of the Opera' Is Streaming Now Online for Just 48 Hours!

Broadway composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has been streaming all of his filmed stage musicals for free throughout the ongoing health crisis and the latest one is The Phantom of the Opera!

This musical is the longest-running show ever on Broadway and you can watch the full show from the comfort of your own home for 48 hours.

This filmed version is the 25th anniversary staging that took place at Royal Albert Hall in London back in 2011.

Broadway stars Ramin Karimloo, Sierra Boggess, and Hadley Fraser star as The Phantom, Christine, and Raoul, respectively.

You can stream the musical on The Shows Must Go On page through Sunday, April 19 at 2pm ET. The show is only available for 24 hours in the UK and Ireland due to rights issues.

Barrett Foa Reunites with Laura Bell Bundy Amid Exciting Casting News!

NCIS: Los AngelesBarrett Foa and Legally Blonde: The Musical‘s Laura Bell Bundy pose together on the red carpet at the opening night performance of The Play That Goes Wrong at Center Theatre Group’s Ahmanson Theatre on Wednesday (July 10) in Los Angeles.

If you didn’t know, the two actors starred together in the L.A. production of Sweet Charity last summer!

Other stars at the opening night included Moana‘s Auli’i Cravalho, Broadway star Sierra Boggess, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend co-stars Vincent Rodriguez III and Pete Gardner. You can catch the show through August 11.

It was just announced that Barrett will be leading a new production of the acclaimed play Angels in America at the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis. He will be playing the role of Prior Walter, who was recently played on Broadway by Andrew Garfield.

The St. Louis production of Angels in America will have back-to-back marathon performances of both parts and will run September 4 through October 6.

Sutton Foster to Star in Hollywood Bowl's 'Into the Woods'

Sutton Foster will be leading the star-studded cast of the Hollywood Bowl’s production of the classic musical Into the Woods this summer!

The two-time Tony-winning star will play the role of the Baker’s Wife opposite Skylar Astin as The Baker.

Also joining the cast are Sierra Boggess as Cinderella, Cheyenne Jackson as Cinderella’s Prince/The Wolf, Chris Carmack as Rapunzel’s Prince, Hailey Kilgore as Rapunzel, and Anthony Crivello as the Mysterious Man.

Already announced as cast members are Patina Miller as the Witch, Gaten Matarazzo as Jack, Shanice Williams as Little Red Riding Hood, and the voice of Whoopi Goldberg as the Giant.

The musical will run for three performances – July 26, 27, and 28 – at the Hollywood Bowl. Tickets are on sale now!

Sara Bareilles Joins Broadway Stars for Double Standards Concert in NYC

The Tony and Grammy-nominated singer joined some of Broadway’s best, including original Waitress star Jessie Mueller, for a concert celebrating women’s rights, health, and empowerment.

Also in attendance were Sara‘s longtime friend Ingrid Michaelson and her former The Great Comet co-star Denee Benton, as well as Adrienne Warren, Eden Espinosa, Orfeh, Laura Bell Bundy, Linda Hart, Lena Hall, Sierra Boggess, Lesli Margherita, Morgan James, Ana Gasteyer, and more.

“Loved tonight. Thank you all the magic makers and supportive humans for coming together. Good for the soul,” Sara wrote on Instagram.

FYI: Sara is wearing a Luisa Beccaria suit, Pedro Garcia heels, and Swarovski jewelry.

Darren Criss Sings Broadway Songs with Josh Groban (Video)

Darren Criss poses with his buddy Josh Groban while attending the singer’s Pandora Presents concert on Monday (June 1) in New York City.

The 28-year-old former Glee actor joined Josh on stage and they did an a capella version of the song “Anthem” from the Broadway musical Chess.

Darren is currently starring on Broadway in the hit show Hedwig and the Angry Inch. He is only in the show through mid-July, so make sure to get there in time to see him!

Also appearing at the concert was Sierra Boggess, who is starring in the new musical comedy It Shoulda Been You. Go check out that one as well as it’s hilarious!

Vanessa Hudgens & Kristin Chenoweth Win Broadway Audience Awards!

Vanessa Hudgens and Kristin Chenoweth attend the Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards on Tuesday (May 19) at Lounge 48 in New York City.

Both of the ladies picked up awards at the event. Vanessa won Favorite Breakthrough Female Performance for her work in Gigi and Kristin took home three awards – Favorite Leading Actress in a Musical, Favorite Diva Performance, and Favorite Funny Performance for her work in On the Twentieth Century.

Also in attendance were Matthew Morrison and Laura Michelle Kelly from Finding Neverland, which won Favorite Musical. He took home Favorite Leading Actor in a Musical and the duo won Favorite Onstage Pair.

Helen Mirren stopped by to accept Favorite Leading Actress in a Play for The Audience, Christian Borle took home Favorite Featured Actor in a Musical for the Tony-nominated Something Rotten, and Sierra Boggess picked up Favorite Featured Actress in a Musical for It Shoulda Been You.
