Jeffrey Dean Morgan is getting real about The Walking Dead coming to an end.

The 54-year-old actor opened up about the show’s sudden cancellation in an interview with Collider on Thursday (April 1).

Jeffrey said, “The news, when we got it in the middle of the pandemic, was a complete surprise, not only to me and the rest of the actors, but to everybody involved in the show from production. [Chief content officer] Scott Gimple and [showrunner] Angela Kang had no idea either.”

“It came from nowhere and there was such a huge pivot. I think they had Season 11 all mapped out, where they were going to go, and suddenly it became, ‘We also have to close the story, in a way,’” he continued.

“It took everybody by surprise, so it was a massive pivot,” Jeffrey said. “And then, they threw in the six tacked-on episodes to Season 10, and instead of doing 16, we’re going to do 24 more. There was a lot of stuff to wrap our heads around.”

The actor also added that the cast will have a long time to come to terms with the series ending.

“It doesn’t feel like the end yet and I’m glad because that’s a long time to be thinking about the end,” Jeffrey said. “We have another year here to shoot, and we’re shooting straight through. It’s brutal. But I know it’s there. It’s in the back of all of our heads that it’s there.”

Lauren Cohan has opened up about her dream ending for The Walking Dead.

The 38-year-old actress, who plays Maggie in the series, was asked about how she would like to see the series end.

“There’s so many ways it could go and maybe I just don’t really think it’s over. I can’t foresee the end,” Lauren admitted to NME in a recent interview.

She added, “If we’re just dreaming, I would love to see Rick come back. That’s how I’d love it to end, I’d love to see him land in a helicopter and Michonne to be with him.”

Lauren also revealed that Maggie would survive another four decades, if she had her way.

“It would be really, really fun if we got to do a 40-year time jump,” she shared. “You sort of peel back and start on a close-up of some very elderly hands and it takes a minute to figure out whose they are.”

Lauren continued, “Once you realize whose [hands] they are, where they are and where the world is now and what that means and who’s with her…maybe it’s her final days. Maybe she doesn’t die by a zombie? That’s an idea.”

Last month, it was revealed just when season 11 of The Walking Dead would be premiering, plus some really exciting news!

Andrew Lincoln revealed back in 2017 that he doesn’t watch his own show The Walking Dead and the series’ showrunner says he still hasn’t watched!

The 46-year-old actor previously said, “I’m choosing to ignore the whole thing. I couldn’t even look at myself in the old-age makeup. Couldn’t bear it. I don’t watch the show at all. I am allergic to my own face.”

The other day, there was a virtual Comic-Con panel for the upcoming spinoff series The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

Scott Gimple, who is now the chief content officer for the franchise, revealed that Andrew still hasn’t watched the show.

“No, he has not watched it,” Scott said. “I will say, one time I was doing a DVD commentary with him on an episode he wasn’t in, ‘The Grove.’ Five minutes into it, I was like, ‘You’re not watching this, are you?’ He’s like, ‘No, no I’m not.’”

Andrew is set to star in a Walking Dead film series that will be made in the coming years.

So much news was revealed for the Walking Dead franchise last week!

The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead both had panels during Comic-Con @ Home on Friday (July 24) and we learned so much news!

Fans have been waiting for the season finale of The Walking Dead ever since it was delayed to the coronavirus pandemic and the air date was finally announced.

The previously planned finale for season 10 will air on Sunday, October 4 at 9/8c and it will be immediately followed by the series premiere of the new spin-off show The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

This finale isn’t actually going to be the end of season 10 though as six more episodes have been ordered for the season. Those episodes will air in 2021. Season 11 will seemingly premiere later in 2021.

Lauren Cohan is also confirmed to return as Maggie in these upcoming episodes!

Fear the Walking Dead will return for season six on Sunday, October 11 at 9/8c. About half of the episodes were filmed before production was shut down due to COVID-19.

It was recently revealed that a storyline was deleted from The Walking Dead because it was considered to be too dark.

One storyline on The Walking Dead was completely cut out because of just how dark it was.

Speaking on the “Talk Dead To Me” podcast, actor Lew Temple revealed that his character, former prisoner Axel, originally was going to be a serial killer.

“I showed up with the idea that it was going to be serial killer and foreboding, and then, the day-of, got a note to switch that. ‘No, no, we’ve gotta lighten things up a little bit. We’ve been pretty dark’,” he shared.

Lew continued that there were some scripts that had Axel abducting and murdering Hershel Greene’s daughter Beth.

“There were some episodes that were written where I do take Beth out into the woods and slaughter her. And so we didn’t get to any of those,” he says. “That was why I kept buttoned up, he was gonna come undone and be totally Henry Rollins tattooed. The whole thing about being a drug addict was all a facade, the thing about the squirt gun and pistol is all bulls***.”

Lew adds that there were other darker things the writers considered doing with Axel, but even those were too dark.

“I mean, just these really dark things that the writers were talking about, and then all of a sudden, it’s like, ‘Oh, we painted ourselves in the corner, the Governor is showing up and he’s gotta draw blood or he’ll be impotent. He’s gotta draw first blood. And it’s looking like you’re gonna get the short straw.’”

The Walking Dead is currently in its’ sixth season, with a finale episode yet to be aired.

The Walking Dead‘s upcoming season 10 finale has been postponed by AMC.

Variety reports that the episode, which was originally slated to air on April 19, will be held for a later date, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Current events have unfortunately made it impossible to complete post-production of ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 10 finale, so the current season will end with its 15th episode on April 5,” AMC shared in their statement. “The planned finale will appear as a special episode later in the year.”

This news follows the announcement that the spinoff series, World Beyond, premiere was also postponed due to the global health crisis.

SPOILER ALERT – Don’t read ahead if you haven’t watched the latest episode of The Walking Dead!

Danai Gurira‘s time on The Walking Dead has come to an end.

After seven seasons on the hit AMC series, the 42-year-old actress’ character Michonne is off on a new journey. Danai announced she was leaving the show back in July 2019.

“It’s bittersweet,” Danai shared with The New York Times. “But it’s time for me to go on other journeys.”

In her final episode, we find Michonne re-imagining a series of events in her life, suggesting what her life might have been like if she had joined Team Negan (led by Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

Michonne then leaves her children in the care of Daryl (Norman Reedus) after discovering evidence that her former lover Rick Grimes (Andrew Grimes) is still alive. She then leaves on her mission to go find him.

Michonne not being killed off the show could suggest that she will be returning for the planned Walking Dead film series.

“They walked me through this last episode long before I got the script,” Danai continued. “But I wasn’t sure how it was going to work out until today, when I finally saw it. It was chilling to watch. And I don’t even know how they did some of that.”

While she wouldn’t confirm that she will be in any upcoming movies, Danai is grateful for her time on The Walking Dead and learned a lot from playing Michonne.

“Michonne was very much someone I had to step up to, especially when she started to grow into herself and step away from her demons,” Danai shared. “When she became an item with Rick, Michonne was kind of more cool, and Rick was hot. The way she handles and assesses and comes to clarity about things — I’ve always said, she’s smarter than me, she’s faster than me, and she’s stronger than me. So I had to step into her agility and power. I always felt like I could learn from her as a woman, you know?”

New episodes of The Walking Dead air on Sundays at 9pm ET on AMC.
