Gigi Hadid has released a statement to respond to the backlash she received for impersonating Melania Trump at the 2016 American Music Awards.

The 21-year-old model co-hosted the award show and poked fun at the future First Lady during her opening monologue, something that was not well-received by Trump‘s supporters.

Gigi wrote a handwritten letter that she posted on her Twitter account on Monday evening (November 21).

“I was honored to host the AMAs last night and to work with some of the most respected writers in the business. I removed or changed anything in the script that I felt took the joke too far, and whether or not you choose to see it, what remained was done in good humor and with no bad intent,” Gigi wrote. “I too have been the center of a nationally televised comedy skit that poked fun at my actions, and was able to find the humor in it.”

“I believe Melania understands show business and the way shows are written and run. I apologized to anyone that I offended and have only the best wishes for our country,” she concluded the letter.

Chrissy Teigen wore a dress with possibly the highest slit we’ve ever seen at the 2016 American Music Awards and it led to a wardrobe malfunction on the red carpet.

The front panel of the 30-year-old model’s dress blew to the side for a second and a photo captured her wearing no underwear below.

A Twitter troll sent her a message after seeing the photo and said, “Underwear-free @chrissyteigen what happened to being a lady? #SMH.”

Chrissy has a pretty perfect response: “I am pretty sure you could clearly see I’m a lady.”

When more people were tweeting about the wardrobe malfunction, Chrissy explained, “I was walking. It floated. It’s over. I can’t take it back. Here is a formal apology. What else would you like?”

FYI: Chrissy is wearing a Yousef Akbar dress, DSquared2 shoes, a Monique Lhuillier clutch, an Established Jewelry ring, and an Effy Jewelry ring.

Both Zayn Malik and Niall Horan were in attendance at last night’s 2016 American Music Awards, and it turns out, they did have a bit of an awkward interaction.

Twitter user @EverglowAnn recorded a moment where Niall, 23, walked by Zayn, 23, and they shook hands as he passed by. The moment appears a bit awkward, which you can see for yourself in the video below.

Of course, Zayn was once a member of Niall‘s band One Direction.

That same evening, Zayn threw a bit of shade at 1D during his New Artist of the Year award acceptance speech.

Taylor Swift might not have been in attendance at the 2016 American Music Awards, but she was watching the show from home and cheering on all of her friends, including Selena Gomez!

The 26-year-old singer had a bunch of squad members in attendance – Selena, host Gigi Hadid, presenters Hailee Steinfeld and Rachel Platten, and more.

Selena gave the most memorable speech of the night and Taylor took to her Instagram Stories to cheer her pal on for the touching moment.

Shawn Mendes and Niall Horan have teamed up for a special duet!

The 18-year-old singer invited Niall, 23, backstage at the 2016 American Music Awards to perform a special duet rendition of his hit song “Mercy,” which he performed on stage along with “Treat You Better” that same evening.

“@niallhoran is a lad,” Shawn captioned with the Instagram post. Niall also hit the stage during the award ceremony to perform his debut solo single “This Town.”

“Amazing night at the @AMAs,” Niall tweeted. “Thank you for having me as per usual. Appreciate it. Now let’s have a drink.”

Lady Gaga posted such a sweet photo of her having a moment with Selena Gomez backstage at the 2016 American Music Awards.

“So dope I got to hang with with the biggest rockstar of the night. (Ya,know besides Sting and Green Day) …the girl with the biggest prize of all a BIG Heart that she shares with the world,” the 30-year-old entertainer wrote on her Instagram.

Selena gave an extremely emotional acceptance speech after winning the award for Favorite Female Artist – Pop/Rock. When Selena won, Gaga had a supportive and happy reaction!

Selena had been on a break from the spotlight for several months, and her appearance at the AMAs was her first public outing in a while.
