Olivia Rodrigo Says Her Debut Album Is Reminiscent of Alanis Morissette's 'Jagged Little Pill'

Olivia Rodrigo is excited for her new music.

The 18-year-old “Drivers License” superstar sat down with Apple Music to discuss her upcoming album SOUR, as well as influences in her career.

Here’s what she had to say…

On her debut album: “It feels really angsty to me, which I really like. It’s reminiscent of sort of the albums like [Alanis Morissette's] Jagged Little Pill that I love… I talked about this with you before, but I’m super, super critical of everything, but I’m really happy with this album. And that doesn’t happen very often where I feel completely sure. I mean, obviously you don’t feel completely sure of anything, but I really feel like it’s the best that I can do right now and I’m real proud of that. Yeah. And in a year, the best that I can do is going to be something totally different, and that’s just the cool thing about putting out music when you’re a teenager.”

Alanis Morissette had the best singing partner during her appearance on The Tonight Show this week – her daughter, Onyx Solace Treadway!

Onyx, 4, holds up headphones to her ears while singing along and giggling with her mom for a performance of “Ablaze” with her band on the program.

The track, which is off her new album, Such Pretty Forks in the Road, focuses on the difficulties of parenting and having Onyx beside her was appropriate.

Onyx tried to take off her headphones many times during the performance and talked to Alanis for a few moments in between before the song ended.

“So your music’s done or you going to keep on singing?” Alanis asked her at the end.

“You can stop,” Onyx replied.

If you missed it, one of Alanis‘s tracks on the album focuses on mental health.

The 46-year-old musician revealed that between her first born son, Ever and, third born, Winter, she had went through a “bunch of miscarriages”. Alanis also has a daughter, Onyx with husband Mario “Souleye” Treadway.

“We were chasing and just showing up and then surprises and then devastations and all of it,” Alanis explained. “But, I mean, I do trust, I have this trust pilot light thing that keeps cooking along — even when there’s a torrential downpour it’s still flickering — of hope and faith and vision for something to work out, whatever it is.”

She went on, telling Dax that she credits her innate optimism for keeping her hopes up about things she can not control.

“I’m an optimist who will get depressed and cry, but at the end of the day there’s still that little light,” Alanis said. “That little star of Bethlehem keeps dangling over there.”

Just recently, Alanis opened up about the meaning of her mental health song, “Diagnosis”.

Alanis Morissette Breastfeeds Her Son on 'Health' Magazine Cover!

Alanis Morissette breastfeeds her youngest child Winter, 7 months, on the cover of Health magazine’s latest issue, on sale April 10.

Here’s what the 45-year-old singer had to share with the mag…

On why she wanted to appear on the cover while breastfeeding: “Because I love women. I love moms so much. If I talk about it too much, I’ll start crying. I just think moms are so selfless day in and day out—women are just killing it all the time. And they are so often quietly suffering, or not-so-quietly suffering, and still going—functioning sufferers. And if there can be even one moment of respite that my humor around it or my validation of it can help—that’s why I did it. Plus, I love education and teaching.”

On her postpartum experiences: “My first two children, it was mostly depression, suicidal ideation, and anxiety. But the depression was so in my face that the anxiety was just background music. With this one, it’s mostly anxiety and almost no depression. I’ve come to understand that this is purely animal. On that animal level, you’re just supposed to be up all night feeding your baby and sleeping all day when they’re napping. Who the f— does that? I don’t know any mom that is like, ‘I totally sleep when they sleep.’”
