Jennifer Hudson Honors Aretha Franklin at Pulitzer Prize Event

Jennifer Hudson belts out the song “Amazing Grace” during the Pulitzer Prize luncheon event at Columbia University’s Low Memorial Library on Tuesday (May 28) in New York City.

The Oscar-winning singer and actress paid tribute to the late Aretha Franklin, who received a posthumous special citation “for her indelible contribution to American music and culture for more than five decades.”

Jennifer, who is set to play Aretha in an upcoming biopic, performed the song in her honor.

At the event, Jennifer revealed that she had to drive 14 hours from Chicago to New York City after flights were canceled due to the weather.

Aretha Franklin Posthumously Honored With Pulitzer Prize

Aretha Franklin was just awarded a Pulitzer Prize!

The late iconic musician was honored with the Pulitzer Prize Special Citation for her contribution to American music and culture.

She is the first individual woman to earn the special citation since it was first awarded in 1930.

Others honored with the prize include Hank Williams, Bob Dylan, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane and Thelonious Monk.

Aretha passed away on August 16th at age 76 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

She has received numerous other prestigious accolades, including being the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Aretha Franklin Grammy Tribute Concert - Performers & Songs Revealed!

Aretha Franklin is being honored in a major spectacle called Aretha! A Grammy Celebration for the Queen of Soul on Sunday night (March 10) at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.

The star-studded concert will be hosted by Tyler Perry, and will feature appearances by Angela Bassett, Courtney B. Vance, Clive Davis and Smokey Robinson.

The evening will also include performances by superstars like Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson, Janelle Monae and Jennifer Hudson.

The legendary Queen of Soul died at the age of 76 in August of 2018.

Aretha Franklin Gets Grammys 2019 Tribute From Fantasia Barrino, Andra Day, & Yolanda Adams (Video)

Yolanda Adams, Fantasia Barrino, and Andra Day team up to honor Aretha Franklin at the 2019 Grammy Awards!

The 57-year-old gospel singer, the 34-year-old “Lose to Win” crooner, and the 34-year-old “Stand Up for Something” singer took the stage at the event held on Sunday (February 10) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The trio performed the late Queen of Soul’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” receiving a standing ovation.

Aretha passed away last August at age 76 after a battle with cancer.

'Aretha! A Grammy Celebration for the Queen of Soul' Performers & Host Revealed!

Aretha Franklin is getting a superstar tribute!

The late Queen of Soul will be honored by CBS, the Recording Academy, AEG Ehrlich Ventures and Clive Davis with Aretha! A GRAMMY Celebration for the Queen of Soul.

The special will include performances from Yolanda Adams, Shirley Caesar, Alessia Cara, Kelly Clarkson, Common, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Patti LaBelle, BeBe Winans, Brandi Carlile, Chloe X Halle, H.E.R., Janelle Monáe and SZA.

Tyler Perry will host the night, with more performances to be announced in the coming weeks.

The live concert taping is on January 13, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. PT at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles and will be broadcast later in 2019 on CBS. For ticket information, click here.

Demi Lovato Shares Text Message She Received From the Late Aretha Franklin

Demi Lovato posted a tribute to Aretha Franklin in the form of a text she received from the Queen of Soul last year.

The 26-year-old entertainer shared a text she received from Aretha during the holidays.

“Hi Demi, THE [HAPPIEST] OF HOLIDAYS !!! ARETHA,” the text read.

Demi also commented, “Still can’t believe that one year ago today the queen of soul herself texted me to wish me happy holidays…we miss you queen. RIP Aretha.”

Aretha passed away in August at the age of 76.

Gladys Knight, Mary Mary, Ledisi & More Perform Aretha Franklin Tribute at American Music Awards 2018 - Watch

Gladys Knight, Ledisi, Donnie McClurkin, Mary Mary and CeCe Winans performed an emotional tribute to the late Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, at the 2018 American Music Awards on Tuesday (October 9) at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The tribute included a video homage, followed by renditions of “Amazing Grace” and “Climb Higher Mountains,” which was used as the recessional during her funeral.

The performance also included powerful renditions of “Mary Don’t You Weep,” “How I Got Over” and “Old Landmark.”
