Margot Robbie Reveals Details About the Upcoming 'Barbie' Movie

Margot Robbie is opening up about the upcoming Barbie movie.

The 30-year-old I, Tonya actress spoke out in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about the highly anticipated project about what to expect from the live-action film.

“We like the things that feel a little left of center. Something like Barbie where the IP, the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is,’ but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different — the thing you didn’t know you wanted,’” she revealed.

As an actress who has also acted as a film producer, she also talked about her involvement in the film.

“Oh no, I’m still very happy to do acting pieces where I’m not involved or the company is not involved. It’s really nice, actually. (Laughs.) I feel myself start panicking and doing a shot list in my head, like, ‘Oh, we’re not going to get that. Oh, we’re going to go into overtime.’ And then I’m like, ‘It doesn’t matter,’” she continued.

She is also set to star in a female-led retelling of this popular franchise.

Greta Gerwig to Write & Possibly Direct 'Barbie' Movie Starring Margot Robbie!

Greta Gerwig will be co-writing the screenplay for the upcoming live-action Barbie movie and she’s also in talks to possibly direct the film!

The 35-year-old Oscar-nominated actress and filmmaker will be writing the screenplay alongside her longtime partner Noah Baumbach, according to THR.

Margot Robbie will be playing Barbie in the movie. The project has been in the works since 2018 and Amy Schumer was originally set to star in the film and Anne Hathaway was later attached.

Greta and Margot grew close during the 2018 awards season when their movies Lady Bird and I, Tonya were both nominated at nearly every show. It was only a matter of time before they found a project to work on together!

People are just realizing something about Barbie, as in the popular doll character, after years of loving the character… she has a last name!

The revelation came after the official Barbie account on Twitter wished followers a Happy Siblings Day “from the Roberts sisters.” In the tweet, Barbie is seen posing with her sisters.

Barbie‘s full name is actually Barbara Millicent Roberts and Ken’s full name is Ken Carson.

The doll was named after creator Ruth Handler‘s teenage daughter Barbara. She was inspired the create the doll after seeing her daughter play with paper dolls.

Anne Hathaway's 'Barbie' Movie Delayed from Summer 2018 to May 2020

Fans will have to wait a lot longer than they thought to see Anne Hathaway in the upcoming live-action Barbie movie.

The film has been delayed from an August 8, 2018 release date to May 8, 2020.

Amy Schumer was originally set to star in the film and her sister Kim Caramele is credited along with Diablo Cody and others as the screenwriters. The movie will be directed by Alethea Jones, who made her feature film directorial debut with last year’s comedy Fun Mom Dinner.

Deadline reports that the script for Barbie is still being worked on “and that those behind the pic want to get this popular Mattel toy franchise right.”

Even though we have more than two years to wait, we are looking forward to seeing the film!

Amy Schumer Drops Out of 'Barbie' Movie Due to Schedule

Amy Schumer has announced that she has dropped out of the upcoming live-action Barbie movie due to scheduling conflicts.

Sony Pictures still plans on moving forward with the movie and a new leading lady will be revealed soon.

“Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts,” Amy told Variety in a statement. “The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.”

The film is set to follow a character who is kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough and she lands in a real-world adventure. Amy did a rewrite of the script, but it’s not know if her edits will be kept for the new actress.

Amy Schumer Responds to 'Barbie' Casting Haters

Amy Schumer has taken to Instagram to respond to haters who criticized her for her casting in the Barbie movie and fat-shamed her on social media.

The 35-year-old actress and comedian, who just scored two Grammy nominations, says that she doesn’t think she has been fat-shamed though as she doesn’t consider herself to be fat and she is not ashamed of anything that she does.

Amy is set to play a version of Barbie in an upcoming live-action movie and if you read the plot, you’ll know that her humor is perfect for the role.

“Very very honored to be nominated for 2 Grammys and to be considered to play an important and evolving icon. Is it fat shaming if you know you’re not fat and have zero shame in your game? I don’t think so,” Amy wrote.

“I am strong and proud of how I live my life and say what I mean and fight for what I believe in and I have a blast doing it with the people I love. Where’s the shame? It’s not there. It’s an illusion,” she added.
