Broadway Stars Turn Gender Roles on 'Dreamgirls' Classic - Watch the Epic Video!

If you have ever wanted to see the gender roles in the musical Dreamgirls flipped, you are in luck thanks to MCC Theatre’s Miscast Gala.

The annual gala allows Broadway performers to sing songs for roles they would never be able to play on stage due to age, gender, and/or race restrictions.

Two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz led an epic ensemble to perform the Dreamgirls songs “It’s All Over” and “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” at this year’s event. He played Effie while Brian d’Arcy James played Deena and Brandon Victor Dixon took on Lorrell.

Stephanie J. Block played Effie’s love interest Curtis, Kelli O’Hara took on Effie’s brother C.C., Jordan Fisher played the new Dream Michelle, and Jenn Colella played Jimmy Early.

Jennifer Holliday, who originated the role of Effie on Broadway, was sitting on stage during the performance and Norbert bowed at her feet after he was finished singing!

Hamilton's Brandon Victor Dixon Says 'There's Nothing to Apologize For'

Brandon Victor Dixon, the star of Broadway’s Hamilton, is opening up about delivering a message to Mike Pence and why he thinks “there’s nothing to apologize for.”

Donald Trump says that the cast was rude and he demanded an apology on behalf of the VP-elect.

Brandon appeared on CBS This Morning on Monday (November 21) to talk about the experience.

“The producers, the creatives and the cast, we recognize that Hamilton is inherently an American story told by the definition of the American community – we are men and women of different colors, creeds, and orientations – and the resonate nature of the show throughout the world, throughout the global community, demands that we make statements when there are important issues facing us as a community,” Brandon said. “So we wanted to stand up and spread a message of love, and of unity.”

“I was honored to represent our cast and our show in that way,” he added. “For me, I think the most important thing in respect to all the emotions everyone is feeling after this election is to make sure that people recognize that we are not alone. We are here together.”

'Hamilton' Star Responds to Donald Trump's Apology Demand

Brandon Victor Dixon, who is currently starring as Aaron Burr in Broadway’s Hamilton, has responded to Donald Trump‘s demand to apologize to VP-elect Mike Pence.

The Tony-nominated actor delivered a message to Pence on behalf of the cast following Friday night’s performance. The President-elect says the cast “harassed” Pence in a “safe place” and that they were “very rude” to him for doing so.

“conversation is not harassment sir. And I appreciate [Pence] for stopping to listen,” Brandon tweeted in response to Trump.

Brandon also spoke to Broadway.com about having the VP-elect at the performance and when they found out he would be attending.

“When we first got the call that he was coming, there was certainly a question of what we would do,” he said. “These are the opportunities that you die for.”

“I saw him enjoying it with whoever he was with, and I hope he remembers us. I truly believe we had an affect,” Brandon added. “It was a message from the producers the creative and the cast. If you have differences, say something! What better place than on this stage telling this story with these people? I hope he thinks of us every time he has to deal with an issue or talk about a bill or present anything.”
