Bryce Dallas Howard has revealed she kept her last name a secret while a student at New York University because of her famous dad, director Ron Howard.

“I was insecure about that when I was younger,” she told the LA Times about her insecurity about her last name. “When I went to NYU, I wouldn’t tell anyone my last name and I was like, ‘No, Dad, you can’t come see my play because people might recognize you.’”

“For me to be weird about something that, honestly, really doesn’t have anything to do with me — I just realized, that’s just shortsighted,” she continued. “So many of my peers at NYU had parents who were really not supportive of them being artists in any way, shape or form, which totally made sense because they were scared for them.”

Bryce added, “I had parents who were emotionally supportive of me. … There wasn’t a lot of baggage that I inherited from them in that way. Have you met my dad? He’s sweet, isn’t he?”

Bryce enrolled at NYU in 1999 and she just recently graduated!

Bryce Dallas Howard is ready to get back to work!

The 39-year-old actress opened up about her excitement to return to set in England to resume production on the upcoming Jurassic World: Dominion.

“There’s been a lot of communication. They are going above and beyond,” Bryce shared on SiriusXM’s EW Live. “We would never be going back to work if we didn’t feel safe. And, you know, we’re taking it one day at a time and I’m very grateful to have a job.”

The day before, it was announced that Jurassic World: Dominion will be the first movie to return to production in the U.K. amid the pandemic.

“What feels really right about it is that there is this daily conversation, daily communication with all of the actors, all of the key crew members and just us consistently being like, ‘Ok how are we going to do this, how are we going to do this safely,’” Bryce continued. “And not making compromises that could undermine someone’s health.”

Bryce and Chris Pratt will fly out to the UK and undergo a routine two-week quarantine once arriving.

Jurassic World: Domininion is going to be the first film back filming in the UK.

Universal confirmed the news that after a mid-March shut down due to Coronavirus aka COVID-19, the film is set to return to filming the week of July 6.

“The plan is for us to be shooting early-mid July,” a senior Universal production executive told Deadline.

The site reports that the production has been “implementing rigorous safety protocols on-site and a two week pre-production period will begin next week.”

“Anyone with symptoms will be isolated immediately before being sent home,” the Universal production executive continued. “We want to make sure that we are going above and beyond the national protocols to create a safe environment. Cost isn’t our main concern now: it’s safety. We will take direction from our medical team, but we’re confident that with the staggered scheduling and zones of talent and crew, along with a system of contact tracing, we can move forward with limited delay in production.”

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will fly out to the UK and undergo a routine two-week quarantine once arriving.

Bryce Dallas Howard has directed the documentary Dads, which will be premiering on Apple TV+ in less than a week!

This is the actress’ directorial debut and Bryce offers an intimate look at the dads in her own family, including interviews with her late grandfather Rance, her father Ron and her brother Reed.

Dads is a heartfelt and humorous documentary that celebrates the joys and challenges of parenting in today’s world. Featuring six extraordinary fathers from across the globe, this film offers a firsthand glimpse into the trials and tribulations of modern-day parenting through revealing interviews, rare home-movie footage, viral videos, and hilarious and thoughtful testimonials from some of Hollywood’s funniest celebrities, including Judd Apatow, Jimmy Fallon, Neil Patrick Harris, Ron Howard, Ken Jeong, Jimmy Kimmel, Hasan Minhaj, Conan O’Brien, Patton Oswalt, Will Smith, and more.

The movie will be released on Apple TV+ on June 19.

Stars are coming together to “take responsibility” for racism – but not everyone is impressed with their call to action.

The video, made in partnership with the NAACP, features stars like Kristen Bell, Aaron Paul and Debra Messing speaking about white privilege and taking responsibility to call out racism.

“I take responsibility for every unchecked moment, for every time it was easier to ignore than to call it out for what it was. Every not-so-funny joke. Every unfair stereotype. Every blatant injustice no matter how big or small. Every time I remained silent. Every time I explained away police brutality or turned a blind eye. I take responsibility. Black people are being slaughtered in the streets. Killed in their own homes. These are our brothers and sisters. Our friends. Our family. We are done watching them die. We are no longer bystanders; we will not be idle. Enough is enough,” they say.

“Confluential Films and the NAACP have partnered to launch the impact-oriented campaign, I Take Responsibility, where influential voices from the white community take responsibility for turning the racist tide in America. #itakeresponsibility itakeresponsibility.org,” the video’s description reads.

While some have appreciated the message of the video, others compared it to the widely criticized “Imagine” celebrity singalong video amid the pandemic, criticizing it as an empty display of performative allyship amid global protests condemning racism. Others also mocked their behavior in the videos, comparing it to an audition for a role.

The Help is currently the number one film on Netflix and it’s problematic during this time.

Viola Davis, the star of the film, once said she regretted starring in the movie, and explained why: “I just felt that at the end of the day that it wasn’t the voices of the maids that were heard. I know Aibileen [the role played by Davis]. I know Minny [the role played by Octavia Spencer]. They’re my grandma. They’re my mom. And I know that if you do a movie where the whole premise is, I want to know what it feels like to work for white people and to bring up children in 1963, I want to hear how you really feel about it. I never heard that in the course of the movie.”

Now, another one of the film’s stars, Bryce Dallas Howard, is speaking out. Bryce starred as one of the villains in the film.

“I’ve heard that #TheHelp is the most viewed film on Netflix right now! I’m so grateful for the exquisite friendships that came from that film — our bond is something I treasure deeply and will last a lifetime. This being said, The Help is a fictional story told through the perspective of a white character and was created by predominantly white storytellers. We can all go further,” Bryce posted on her Facebook.

You can thank Bryce Dallas Howard‘s children for that soup sipping Baby Yoda moment in The Mandalorian.

The 39-year-old filmmaker revealed during the ATX Festival (via Page Six) that her kids, Theodore and Beatrice, were always asking about Baby Yoda during filming of the first season.

Bryce shared that her kids would often come to the set with her and were always asking about Baby Yoda, which led to the iconic meme of Baby Yoda sipping soup.

“My kids were on set pretty much every day,” she said. “Even before we came to set, when it was the storyboards for the episode… when we were just conceiving of things, my [then-six] daughter would come into the editing room and whenever Baby [Yoda] wasn’t on screen, she would lean over to me and be like, ‘Where’s Baby? Where’s Baby? Where’s Baby?’ [Executive producer] Jon [Favreau] picked up on that, like, ‘Oh yeah — if the kid is wondering where Baby is, then we need to know where Baby is at all times.’

Bryce continued, “There was something with the kids where Baby was very real and Baby was in danger and they needed to see where Baby was at all times… They needed to know Baby was safe, and from that a variety of moments came up that were constructed just because we wanted everyone to know Baby was safe.”
