Bryce Dallas Howard was one of the stars of 2011′s The Help, and when asked if she would still star in the movie today, she replied “No.”

“But what I will say is: What I’ve seen is that folks have the courage to say that. ‘With all due respect, I love this project, I do not think you could be the filmmaker.’ That’s a really powerful thing to say,” the 39-year-old actress told the Los Angeles Times. “That’s an important stance to take in order to make room for the true authentic storytellers.”

The Help is told from the perspective of a white woman instead of from the lens of the black men and women during the Civil Rights era. Many have been pointing out that the film is a “racial reconciliation” movie and there are other movies about race issues that are more appropriate to watch right now.

Recently, The Help went to number one on Netflix and Bryce actually spoke out and shared films that should be watched instead.

Another star of The Help said she also regretted starring in the film.

The Help is currently the number one film on Netflix and it’s problematic during this time.

Viola Davis, the star of the film, once said she regretted starring in the movie, and explained why: “I just felt that at the end of the day that it wasn’t the voices of the maids that were heard. I know Aibileen [the role played by Davis]. I know Minny [the role played by Octavia Spencer]. They’re my grandma. They’re my mom. And I know that if you do a movie where the whole premise is, I want to know what it feels like to work for white people and to bring up children in 1963, I want to hear how you really feel about it. I never heard that in the course of the movie.”

Now, another one of the film’s stars, Bryce Dallas Howard, is speaking out. Bryce starred as one of the villains in the film.

“I’ve heard that #TheHelp is the most viewed film on Netflix right now! I’m so grateful for the exquisite friendships that came from that film — our bond is something I treasure deeply and will last a lifetime. This being said, The Help is a fictional story told through the perspective of a white character and was created by predominantly white storytellers. We can all go further,” Bryce posted on her Facebook.

She continued, “Stories are a gateway to radical empathy and the greatest ones are catalysts for action. Viola Davis has made the reveal that she regrets her Oscar nominated work in The Help.

“Have I ever done roles that I’ve regretted? I have, and The Help is on that list,” Viola told the New York Times.

Viola was nominated for an Oscar for her work in the movie in 2012. Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain were also nominated, and Octavia ended up winning the Supporting Actress Academy Award.

Viola explained, “I just felt that at the end of the day that it wasn’t the voices of the maids that were heard. I know Aibileen [the role played by Davis]. I know Minny [the role played by Spencer]. They’re my grandma. They’re my mom. “The friendships that I formed are ones that I’m going to have for the rest of my life,” Viola added. “I had a great experience with these other actresses, who are extraordinary human beings. And I could not ask for a better collaborator than [director] Tate Taylor.”
