Charli XCX is getting candid about her thoughts on therapy.

The 27-year-old singer explained that while she’s never been to see a therapist, she wants the stigma around it to change.

“I’m not anti-therapy at all. I’ve never been anti it, I think it’s brilliant and great and I think everybody should have it because it’s like going to the doctors. It’s like you go for a physical checkup and so you should do the same for your mental health,” Charli told Julie Adenuga on Beats 1 on Apple Music.

She continued, “But I feel like there is this stigma in the UK about, ‘Oh therapy, it’s a bit LA isn’t it?’ I really do think that. I think it’s less common here to be very open about it. I think there’s also a thought that only really rich people can get a therapist and I don’t think that’s the case. I’ve never done it before, just because it’s felt a bit alien to me, but I’ve never been anti it, I think I’ve just been nervous. Now I’m like, ‘Okay, I think I really want to do that.’”

Charli XCX is the guest editor of the new issue of Dazed magazine and opening up about everything from fashion to music and more.

The 27-year-old singer revealed that she looks to her new self-titled album as the truest form of a personal album.

“I feel like for the first time, I’m really opening up about my mental state,” she says. “I was really open to writing in those moments where I felt really depressed, or insecure, or sad. Rather than leaving the studio and going home, I would write a song there and then.”

There are also breakup themes on the album, but not the romantic kinds. Charli actually split from her management company six months before beginning work on the album.

“It was a different type of break-up, but my world was totally flipped upside down.”

Charli XCX is taking over Fallon!

The 27-year-old singer stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday night (September 16) to promote her new album Charli.

“On this [album] I delved more into my mental health, my insecurities, and my feelings on anxiety,” Charli said about the album. “It just kind of happened in a very natural way and I’m really proud of the album.”

Also during her appearance, Charli hit the stage for a performance of her new song “Gone” with Christine and the Queens.

Charli XCX and Troye Sivan ride in on waves in their new video for “2099″.

The two musicians are joined by a gang of jet ski riders in the new visual.

“2099″ is the final track off of Charli‘s new album, which you can stream now on JustJared.com.

The 27-year-old singer has dropped a bunch of songs from her third studio album already, but now you can hear all 15 tracks.

Charli collaborated with such artists as Lizzo, Troye Sivan, Haim, Christine and the Queens, and more for the new album. She created some super cool single artwork with her featured artists and you can see all of those photos in the gallery.

Here’s what the 27-year-old “Flash Pose” singer had to say…

On exploring her mental health through music: “[I go into] my thoughts and feelings about my mental state and what life is supposed to be as an artist, my depression, and my insecurities. I’m being more honest than ever before. It’s been very therapeutic.”

On her conflicting feelings about fame and commercial success: “["Fancy" was] real pop star whirlwind s–t. That allowed me to see the world and travel and go on crazy TV shows. That was amazing. It’s shaped who I am as an artist. But did it bring me happiness and creative fulfillment? No.”

On the difficulties of being a creative: “People don’t often talk about the kind of difficulty that surrounds being a creative person…I’m not happy all the time. I’m not stable all the time, and I don’t want to pretend that I am. I want people who follow me and care about my music to know that I don’t feel 100 percent on my game all the time, and it’s OK.”

On defining success in her career, on her own terms: “Do I want fame? Do I want commercial success? Or do I want to do my thing, no games, and make music that I care about? And more and more, I’m making decisions for the latter.”
