Theo James Says He's Done With The 'Divergent' & 'Underworld' Series

Don’t expect to see Theo James in any more Divergent movies or television shows.

Although Lionsgate announced they would like to make a TV movie for the final film in the series, Ascendant, and a TV show, the 32-year-old actor has said that he will not be returning to his role as Four.

“I think it’s a shame that we can’t finish the story,” he told TooFab. “But I think it’s evolving in a place where the actors that have been in the three movies probably won’t be in whatever it evolves to in the future.”

His co-star Shailene Woodley also said that she will not be involved in any further movies or TV series.

Theo has also been apart of the Underworld franchise since Underworld: Awakening, and he was asked if he would still be involved in any future films in that series, after the upcoming Underworld: Blood Wars.

“I think David’s storyline is done. I think his arc has been fully realized,” he said. “I think now is the time for the new characters that have been introduced to the story to take the helm, mainly Bradley James, who will be the next lead.”

Shailene Woodley Isn't Interested In 'Divergent' TV Adaption

Shailene Woodley will not be involved in the Divergent TV adaptions, she shared with press this week.

Speaking with Screen Rant during her Snowden press rounds, the 24-year-old actress stated that not interested in the franchise if it does turn into a television series.

“Last I heard they were trying to make it into a television show. I didn’t sign up to be in a television show,” she shared. “Out of respect to the studio and everyone in involved, they may have changed their mind and may be doing something different, but I’m not necessarily interested in doing a television show.”

Lionsgate announced earlier this summer that the final film, Ascendant, would skip the big screen for a TV movie and spinoff series.

Shailene Woodley Reacts To 'Ascendant' Straight to TV News

Shailene Woodley has responded to the news about Ascendant heading straight to TV instead of the big screen.

The 24-year-old actress, who stars as Tris in the film franchise, spoke to Deadline about the news just after she arrived at 2016 San Diego Comic-Con.

“Honestly, I was on a plane when all that happened and I landed, and I’m like ‘Whoa, what’s going on?!’” she shared. “I need to talk and find out what the details are.”

Shailene didn’t comment on if she’d return as Tris for the TV plans at all.

If you missed it, Lionsgate announced yesterday that Ascendant, the final film, would skip the big screen for a TV movie and spinoff series.

'Divergent' Final Film 'Ascendant' Heads To TV Instead of Big Screen

The final film of the Divergent film series, Ascendant, isn’t looking to make a big splash on the movie screen.

Instead, according to Variety, the film will wrap up with a television movie and a spinoff series.

Lionsgate plans to “wrap up the film series on the small screen, according to an individual with knowledge of the situation. That would then segue into a standalone television series set in the same post-apocalyptic world.”

Shooting on Ascendant was planned for this summer in Atlanta, however, the box office performance of Allegiant has caused the studio to re-think the decision.

For the television wrap up, “the idea is to finalize the storylines involving the current cast and to introduce a new cast, who would then continue the series on either a traditional or streaming network.”

There’s no word if Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort or other stars will reprise their roles at this point for the television debut.
