Kelsey Grammer to Star in 'Frasier' Reboot Series for Paramount+

Kelsey Grammer will be reprising his role as Frasier Crane in a reboot of Frasier for the upcoming streaming service Paramount+.

The reboot series has been in the works for years and now the series finally has a home!

“Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I’d like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world,” Kelsey said in a statement (via THR). “I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane.”

Kelsey has been playing Frasier for decades, first debuting as the character in 1984 on the beloved series Cheers. He then starred in the spinoff series Frasier on NBC for 11 seasons. He won four Emmys and three Golden Globes for his work on the show.

Frasier is one of the most acclaimed comedies in modern television history and truly defines premium storytelling,” said CBS Studios president David Stapf. “There has long been a call from fans for its return, and that call is now answered thanks to the amazing Kelsey Grammer reprising his iconic role of Dr. Frasier Crane and a brilliant creative plan from Joe, Chris and Kelsey. We can’t wait to reveal its next chapter on Paramount +.”

Kelsey will also be starring in an upcoming ABC comedy series opposite Alec Baldwin, which will air during the 2021-22 season.

Kelsey Grammer 90s Series 'Frasier' Reboot Eyed For Paramount+

Frasier might be getting a reboot!

The original series, a spin-off from Cheers, ran from 1993 until 2004 for 11 seasons and starred Kelsey Grammer in the title role with David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, Peri Gilpin and the late John Mahoney.

TVLine is now reporting that Paramonunt+, formerly known as CBS All Access, is eyeing a revival of the series, which would bring back Kelsey‘s title character.

A revival was first spoken about back in 2018, but has since faded into the background.

“[We] have to make sure it’s going to be a great show,” Kelsey shared at that time about the possibility of bringing it back at all. “If it’s not a great show, and if we don’t hear a pitch that hits it out of the park, it probably won’t happen.”

There are hopes that Peri, Jane and David would all be involved someway in the project, which would be based in an entirely new city as at the end of the original series, Frasier left for Chicago to be with his girlfriend Charlotte (played by Laura Linney).

The site says that if the project is greenlit, it could begin filming as early as this summer.

Frasier isn’t the only show in talks to be revived. This popular ABC show is also in talks to do the same…

Apparently, Kelsey Grammer, the star and executive producer, is interested in rebooting Frasier with a new premise. Deadline is reporting that Kelsey is now “fielding interest” and “meeting with writers who are pitching different concepts.”

If the reboot becomes a reality, the show would likely take place in a different city. The original show took place in Seattle, Washington, however, the finale of the show showed Frasier flying to Chicago to pursue Charlotte, played by Laura Linney.
