Gemma Chan is gorgeous as she strikes a pose at The St. Regis Hong Kong grand opening Midnight Supper celebration!

The 36-year-old Crazy Rich Asians star was accompanied by her parents as they enjoyed a 5-course menu by award-winning French chef and Culinary Director of L’Envol, Olivier Elzer, paired with a special wine selection by Tristan Pommier, Executive Chief Sommelier at The St. Regis Hong Kong.

“Had an incredible few days in Hong Kong at the grand opening of the @StRegisHK,” Gemma captioned with her Instagram post. “Honoured to be their first guest and it’s been even more special to be back here with my mum and dad for the first time since I was a child. In the third photo we are on the Star Ferry between Kowloon and HK Island that my dad and grandma used to take every day to work.”

Here’s what the 36-year-old actress had to share with the mag:

On women being asked about ageing more than men: “Discussions around ageing have been a way of controlling women, making women feel insecure about ourselves and as if they aren’t adequate. We need to change things, especially in the beauty industry. The ageing process is going to happen to all of us – how are we going to deal with it? I think ‘anti-ageing’ is a prehistoric term.

On how racial stereotypes impacted her career: “Back when I started out a lot of the parts that I would be asked to audition for would be specifically ethnic parts. But I was told things like,’ we really liked you, we liked your read, but can you do more of an accent, you sound too English!’ There were preconceived ideas of what someone like me should sound like.”

On using rejection as fuel: “I put that energy into my work and it just makes me more determined to do what I do. That’s why it’s so important for a film Crazy Rich Asians to come out and challenge and subvert people’s ideas of what Asian people are like or perhaps what women are capable of…I think we need to challenge prejudice as a whole, to be honest.”

On being shy: “In a new social situation, I’d much rather sit back and let other people talk first. I prefer to listen and, I suppose, get the measure of people before I necessarily give them all of me.”

On the Internet trolls who took issue with her playing Bess of Hardwick: “Why are actors of color, who have fewer opportunities anyway, only allowed to play their own race? And sometimes they’re not even allowed to play their own race. In the past, the role would be given to a white actor who would tape up their eyes and do the role in yellowface…. I feel like Hamilton opened minds a lot. We have a black man playing George Washington. They describe it as ‘America then, told by America now.’ And I think our art should reflect life now.”

On celebrating representation in fashion and media: “I love opening up a magazine and seeing a whole mixture of body types, gray hair, dark skin, wrinkles — we’re saying that we find these things beautiful.

Gemma Chan is all smiles while making an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday (March 6) in Los Angeles.

The 36-year-old actress talked about growing up in England, what her parents thought of her becoming an actor, making Crazy Rich Asians, having a robotic twin, and her new movie Captain Marvel.

Recently while promoting Captain Marvel, Gemma – who plays Astrid – gave an update on how long we will have to wait for the sequel to Crazy Rich Asians.

“As far as I know they’re starting to write scripts for the second film and the third film. Obviously there are three books in the trilogy,” Gemma told RadioTimes. “But I’ve heard that we won’t shoot until 2020 at the earliest. And we’ll shoot films two and three back to back.”

The 29-year-old Oscar winner hit the red carpet at the event on Monday night (March 4) in Hollywood, Calif.
