Jodie Turner-Smith to Star in 'The Witcher' Prequel Series!

Queen & Slim‘s Jodie Turner-Smith is set to star in The Witcher‘s prequel series for Netflix, titled The Witcher: Blood Origin!

Here’s a synopsis from Deadline: “Set in an elven world 1,200 years before the world of The Witcher, Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time – the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal ‘conjunction of the spheres,’ when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.”

Jodie will portray the role of Éile, “an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess, who has left her clan and position as Queen’s guardian to follow her heart as a nomadic musician.”

The show will be a six-part limited series. Henry Cavill‘s The Witcher is a smash-hit show on Netflix. Unfortunately, the show hit a bit of a snag a few weeks ago!

Jodie Turner-Smith Talks About Raising a Newborn Baby During the Pandemic

Jodie Turner-Smith is opening up about being a new mom in the middle of the pandemic.

The 34-year-old Queen & Slim actress is on the digital cover of Elle‘s February 2021 issue and she had a lot to talk about.

“Navigating parenthood at any time is difficult and it’s even more difficult without support, when everything is shut down and you can’t really see other people or go anywhere,” Jodie said about giving birth to her daughter during the pandemic year.

Jodie and her husband Joshua Jackson welcomed their daughter back in April 2020 and her name was revealed a few months ago.

In the interview, Jodie did note that she has it better than moms of toddlers and school-age children right now. She said, “I’m not having to sit on Zoom with her and suddenly become her educator as well as her caretaker.”

It was recently announced that Jodie will be playing the role of Anne Boleyn in an upcoming three-part drama series. While talking about the show, she said, “We can only infer who she was, because she left no paper trail that would hint at her imagination. She’s endlessly fascinating for that reason.”

Jodie Turner-Smith Set To Play King Henry VIII's Second Wife Anne Boleyn In New Series

Jodie Turner-Smith will be putting on a crown for her next role as Anne Boleyn.

Deadline is reporting that the 34-year-old Queen & Slim star will walk in the shoes of King Henry VIII‘s second wife, who became mom to the future Queen Elizabeth I.

The three-part drama series, set to air on Channel 5, will center on Anne in the final months of her life.

The show will also focus on Anne’s struggle with Tudor England’s patriarchal society, her desire to secure a future for her daughter, and the brutal reality of her failure to provide Henry with a male heir.

Anne was Queen of England for only three years, before she was executed for treason and other charges by beheading.

After the news broke, fans on social media either really loved, or really hated the fact that Jodie would be playing Anne, who was white.

“I wonder if people who are up in arms about Jodie Turner-Smith being cast as Anne Boleyn feel the same way about Christ constantly being portrayed as a white man?,” one fan wrote.

Another added, “To everyone freaking out about the prospect of a black actor playing Anne Boleyn, just a gentle reminder that first BAME woman to play Anne was back in 1933 – by Merle Oberon who was of Indian/ Polynesian descent – and like Jodie Turner-Smith undoubtedly will, she totally rocked.”

Those who opposed were equally as vocal.

“Anne Boleyn was white. A white person would not be picked to play a well known historical black person, it would be classed as white washing. The same applies the other way around in my opinion,” one Twitter user pointed out.

“Erm… Anne Boleyn was white… What would happen if a white person played Martin Luther King in a film? What happened? In a country with 86% of the population being the same colour of the ex-queen, you couldn’t find one good enough to play the part? Thinking faceFace with monocle,” another said.

Jodie says she wants to teach Janie to have confidence that doesn’t stem from just physical beauty. She said, “That self-assuredness is what is going to help her navigate life. Jodie adds that Joshua, 42, is a “really amazing dude. Today’s actually our two-year anniversary. It’s only gotten better and I feel so grateful for that. That’s why I share it sometimes, because I love him, I think he’s hot, I think he’s smart and he’s incredibly talented.”
