Jon Hamm is looking back at some of his most memorable auditions, and recalled one in particular for The O.C.

Turns out that the 49-year-old Mad Men actor once went out for the role of Sandy Cohen, which was ultimately played by Peter Gallagher.

“I was probably 31 or 32,” Jon shared with Rolling Stone on their podcast. “I think it was me and Harry Hamlin [auditioning]…I remember walking in and going, ‘Is that Peter Gallagher? Why am I here?‘ I love Peter Gallagher, but I was just like, ‘Dang!’”

Jon also shared that if not for Mad Men, he would have also auditioned to play Dan Humphrey’s dad Rufus on Gossip Girl.

“I never looked young enough to be in high school, even when I first got out [to L.A.] and I was 25, so I missed out on all of the Dawson’s Creek and all the early WB shows,” he says of the difficulty in landing more recognizable parts on television. “So then they were like, ‘Come play one of the dads,’ but I wasn’t old enough to be that, either…I had to wait around a long time.”

Jon was recently spotted out with girlfriend Anna Osceola just ahead of the Christmas holidays.

The 49-year-old Mad Men and Bridesmaids actor and the 32-year-old actress took his dog Splash
for a late afternoon walk on Tuesday (December 15) in Los Feliz, Calif.

Jon kept things cozy in a black puffer jacket and navy sweatpants while Anna sported a “I Stand With My Pack” T-shirt and leggings for their outing.

If you missed it, Jon recently provided an update on when production will begin for his upcoming movie Fletcher.

Just over the weekend, Jon was spotted wearing an extra face bandana mask over his regular face mask while stay super safe at the grocery store.

In a recent interview while promoting his new movie, Wild Mountain Thyme, Jon actually opened up about another movie he’ll be starting on soon – the reboot of Fletcher.

“We’re hoping to start shooting in the springtime, in New York City – you know, fingers crossed,” he confided in Collider when asked about the project.

Jon added, “We’ve got an excellent script, and an excellent director [Greg Mottola] attached, and we’re going to start casting soon.”

“It’s big shoes to fill, obviously. But as I’ve mentioned in previous conversations, it’s a reboot, it’s not a remake, so we’re going back to the novels and really breaking it down but hopefully bringing what people want to see. So, fingers crossed!”

The original movie starred Chevy Chase in the title role as Irwin M. “Fletch” Fletcher, an L.A. reporter who gets caught up in a criminal scheme and must work to clear his name.
