Sarah Lancashire to Play Iconic Chef Julia Child in New HBO Max Series

A Julia Child series is in the works at HBO Max!

The streaming service has given out an eight-episode series order, titled Julia, based on the iconic chef’s life and her long-running cooking show The French Chef, Variety reports.

It has been announced that British actress Sarah Lancashire will be playing Julia, with the cast also featuring David Hyde Pierce, Brittany Bradford, Fran Kranz, Fiona Glascott, Bebe Neuwirth, Isabella Rossellini, and Jefferson Mays.

“We are so happy to help bring the incomparable Julia Child back to the small screen, when we need her more than ever,” Sarah Aubrey, head of original content for HBO Max, said in a statement. “This show’s look into her life, marriage, and trailblazing career as she transformed the way we talk about food is an absolute delight. Our incredible cast and formidable creative team are a recipe for success, and we couldn’t be more excited.”

Previously, Julia was portrayed by Meryl Streep in the 2009 movie Julie & Julia. The role earned Meryl a Golden Globe award.

Joan Cusack Cast as Julia Child in Upcoming HBO Max Drama

Joan Cusack is taking on the role of Julia Child in an upcoming series about the late chef.

The 56-year-old actress is reportedly in negotiations to be cast in the pilot for the scripted drama which will follow the life of Julia.

According to THR, the show is near a deal for a pilot order at HBO Max.

David Hyde Pierce is also in talks for a leading role.

Joan has several other projects in the works including holiday flicks Klaus and Let It Snow.
