Katherine Heigl Explains Why She Changed Her Hair Color for 'Firefly Lane' Series

Katherine Heigl is opening up about going brunette for her new series Firefly Lane, which is streaming now on Netflix!

The 42-year-old former Grey’s Anatomy actress appeared on The Talk on Thursday (February 4) to talk about the new show.

“I just think this story is so beautiful, powerful, relatable and I haven’t had the opportunity to tell this kind of story [in] a long time. I just love and really respond to those really human, kind of relatable, heartwarming stories,” Katherine said. “I’m really proud how it turned out and I’m so proud of [co-star] Sarah Chalke, everyone involved in it.”

Katherine said she wanted to honor the source material, so she changed her hair color.

“In the book, Tully is a brunette so I love to honor the book as much as possible and I love changing my hair color…and that is very confusing for my children,” Katherine said. “My son, especially, who at the time was two, when I did it was just mind-blown. He didn’t even know who I was. Actually, I think he really loved the brunette. He’d kind of be like [face blushing], then I went back to blonde during the pandemic and he kept coming back to me like, ‘Where’s your brown hair?’”

Katherine recently reflected on leaving Grey’s Anatomy and what she regrets not doing sooner.

Katherine Heigl Reflects on Leaving 'Grey's Anatomy' & What She Regrets Not Doing Sooner

Katherine Heigl is looking back.

The 42-year-old actress reflected on leaving Grey’s Anatomy in 2010 in an interview with People.

“I don’t think you get through life without any regrets, but you can create some purpose from it,” she said while reflecting on her career as a whole.

Following her 2007 Emmy win, she withdrew her name from contention for a repeat nomination, saying she “did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant” a nomination, which led to a reputation for being “difficult” in Hollywood amid other incidents.

“I know there’s a better way to deal with those things than I did. I could have handled it with more grace,” she said.

“I don’t actually regret leaving Grey’s Anatomy — I did the right thing for me and for my family — but I do regret the heightened drama I was feeling at that time. If I’d known anything about meditation then, or had been talking to a therapist or someone to help me through some of the fear that I was steeped in, I think I would have been more calm in how I approached what boundaries I needed to create to thrive,” she continued.

“I certainly regret not learning earlier how to manage my anxiety better. Living at that heightened level of anxiety…created a defensiveness in me and wariness and assuming that people were against me. I let my mind run rampant without the tools to properly manage that,” she went on to say.

“The last five years has been really about learning how to manage that anxiety and to control my own thoughts. I learned that not managing stress leads to not dealing with negativity or frustration or disappointment in the proper way.”

She also further reflected on being labeled “difficult.”

Katherine Heigl Reflects on Being Labeled 'Difficult,' James Marsden Defends Her

Katherine Heigl is looking back on the days when she was labeled as a “difficult” actress to work with in Hollywood.

The label was created after the actress called her 2007 movie Knocked Up “a little sexist,” then decided not to submit herself for the 2008 Emmys because she felt her material on Grey’s Anatomy didn’t warrant a nomination, and then complained in 2009 about her 17-hour workdays on the medical drama series.

“I may have said a couple of things you didn’t like, but then that escalated to ‘she’s ungrateful,’ then that escalated to ‘she’s difficult,’ and that escalated to ‘she’s unprofessional,’” Katherine said in a Washington Post interview. “What is your definition of difficult? Somebody with an opinion that you don’t like? Now, I’m 42, and that s— pisses me off.”

“At the time, I was just quickly told to shut the f— up. The more I said I was sorry, the more they wanted it,” she added. “The more terrified and scared I was of doing something wrong, the more I came across like I had really done something horribly wrong.”

Here's How Katherine Heigl Feels About How Alex Karev Was Written Out Of 'Grey's Anatomy'

Katherine Heigl is calling out the storyline that involved Alex going back to Izzie at the end of season 16 of Grey’s Anatomy.

The 42-year-old actress, who played Izzie from season one until season six, when the character was written out as Alex (Justin Chambers) refused to resume their marriage.

Katherine had asked to be written out of the show in order to spend more time with her family at that time.

In a new interview, Katherine gave her thoughts about the recent storyline, which had Alex leaving his new wife, Jo, to be with Izzie and their twin children.

“I didn’t see it,” Katherine revealed to ET, but did recall that Alex was with Jo. “Listen, isn’t that an a**hole move?”

Previously, showrunner Krista Vernoff explained why that was the only logical choice of Alex’s exit.

“At the end of the day, there were three choices,” she shared with TVLine. “Kill Alex off camera; have Alex be alive and in Seattle — and still married to Jo — and we just never see him; or [reunite him] with Izzie.”

Katherine also revealed if she’d return to the long running series at all.

“I’m super focused on this show and my passion for it,” she shared of Firefly Lane. “I would never say never but it’s not likely.”

Katherine Heigl To Star As First Woman To Run For President in 'Woodhull'

Katherine Heigl has lined up her next film program with new limited series, Woodhull.

The 42-year-old actress, best known for her roles on Roswell and Grey’s Anatomy, will star as Victoria Woodhull, the first ever woman to run for President of the United States.

The series will be based on multiple biographies chronicling the life of Ms. Woodhull, and Katherine will also executive produce the show, Deadline says.

“The moment I discovered the almost too big to be true story of Victoria I have been enthralled and deeply invested in bringing her life story to the screen,” Katherine shared in a statement. “Victoria’s outrageous courage, determination, intelligence and hutzpah would be remarkable in our modern times but was downright revolutionary in hers. Her name and her story has not been celebrated nearly enough for the trails she blazed and the paths she forged for all the women who came after her. I cannot wait to tell the story of this woman who would not be stopped in a time that forbade her to even start.”

Victoria Woodhull ran for President in 1872 for the Equal Rights Party, which supported women’s suffrage and equal rights, and her running mate was abolitionist leader Frederick Douglas.

She, along with her sister Tennessee, were also the first women to operate a brokerage firm on Wall Street and the money they made from that, they used to start a newspaper.

Victoria‘s run for President was darkened when she was arrested and charged for printing obscenities after their paper published an exposé of a renowned preacher, revealing that he had committed adultery.

Just recently, it was rumored that Katherine might be returning to Grey’s Anatomy in one of Meredith’s dreams. However, it turned out to be this character instead.

Grey’s Anatomy fans have some theories based on Ellen Pompeo‘s latest tweet!

Back on Thursday (November 19), the 51-year-old actress, who plays Dr. Meredith Grey, sent out a tweet along with a gif of Meredith with Dr. Izzie Stevens (played by Katherine Heigl).

“Hey it’s Grey’s day!!!” Ellen tweeted along with the gif of the two characters from season three.

A promo for the next episode of Grey’s – airing on Thursday, December 3 – teased that another character from Meredith’s past will be returning.

After the promo debuted, fans started theorizing that the character might be Izzie.

“IZZIE COMING BACK??” one fan tweeted.

“Hey… could you hint us who’s next on the beach?” another person tweeted, to which Ellen responded, “Ummmmmm…No.”

After Meredith collapsed from COVID-19 at the beginning the season premiere, she dreamed about being on the beach, where she reunited with late husband Derek Shepherd – aka Patrick Dempsey.

Katherine starred on Grey’s for six seasons before leaving the show in 2010. As fans can remember, Izzie was not killed off.
