Lil Wayne Pleads Guilty to Federal Gun Charge

Lil Wayne has entered a guilty plea in his federal weapons case.

The 38-year-old rapper appeared in a virtual court hearing on Friday (December 11) in Miami, Fla. where he pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a firearm as a formerly convicted felon, Rap-Up reports.

The charge came from a December 2019 incident where federal agents searched Wayne‘s plane at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport, where he was a passenger on that plane, which made a stop in Florida on its way to California.

Upon the search, federal agents discovered the .45-caliber handgun in Wayne’s luggage.

As a convicted felon, Wayne was not supposed to be in possession of a weapon. Wayne was convicted of a felony gun charge in New York back in 2009. He now faces up to 10 years in prison.

Lil Wayne‘s sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 28, 2021.

He and his ex also just split, possibly because of his political endorsement.

Lil Wayne Faces Up to 10 Years in Prison

Lil Wayne might be getting some major jail time.

The 38-year-old rapper was hit by The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida with one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, TMZ reported Tuesday (November 17).

He was convicted of a felony gun charge in New York back in 2009, and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

The charge came from a December 2019 incident where federal agents searched his plane at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport, where he was a passenger on that plane, which made a stop in Florida on its way to California.

His attorney Howard Srebnick said at the time that his client was “cleared” to leave even though guns and drugs were reportedly found on the plane. Feds now seemingly believe Wayne was wrongfully in possession of a weapon and ammunition.

He was charged for possessing a gold-plated handgun in his luggage back in December.

“There is no allegation that he ever fired it, brandished it, used it or threatened to use it. There is no allegation that he is a dangerous person,” said his attorney in a statement.

“The charge is that because he was convicted of a felony in the past, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm.”

He is scheduled to appear in court next month.

He and his ex also just split, possibly because of his political endorsement.

Donald Trump Has Found Another Celebrity to Endorse Him: Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne has endorsed Donald Trump for the upcoming presidential election.

The 38-year-old rapper took to Twitter on Thursday (October 29) to share a photo from his meeting with Trump and to explain why he’ll be voting for the president.

“Just had a great meeting with @realdonaldtrump @potus besides what he’s done so far with criminal reform, the platinum plan is going to give the community real ownership. He listened to what we had to say today and assured he will and can get it done. 🤙🏾,” Lil Wayne tweeted.

The Platinum Plan that Lil Wayne is referring to is the plan that Ice Cube reportedly helped the Trump administration develop.

The plan promises to increase access to capital in black communities by almost $500 billion, to create 3 million new jobs for the black community, to create 500,000 new black-owned businesses, and more.

As the Washington Post reported this year, “Trump has broken more promises than he’s kept.”
