Warner Bros. has announced the release date for the upcoming Mad Max prequel!

The upcoming movie, titled Furiosa, will be released in theaters on June 23, 2023, according to Deadline.

The spinoff from George Miller‘s Mad Max: Fury Road will follow the character played by Charlize Theron, who assisted Max in the desert.

The movie will reveal the origins of Furiosa, who will be played by The Queen’s Gambit actress Anya Taylor-Joy.

Here’s a plot summary and additional production details: “The movie will track the genesis of Furiosa before she teamed up with Max Rockatansky in Fury Road. Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will also star in a movie that Miller will also direct, co-write and produce with his longtime Oscar-nominated producing partner Doug Mitchell. Miller’s own Australian-based Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner will produce.”

Mad Max: Fury Road first debuted in 2015 and grossed $375.2 million worldwide.

Warner Bros. is developing a spinoff in the Mad Max universe about Furiosa, Deadline reported on Tuesday (October 13).

A shooting occurred at the Carmike Hickory 8 theater during a screening of Mad Max: Fury Road on Wednesday (August 5) in Antioch, Tenn.

According to reports, shots were fired and the police have said the suspect in the shooting has died. There have been no other victims reported dead, THR reports, but three are reportedly injured. The suspect was reportedly armed with a gun, a hatchet, and two backpacks.

“Active shooter situation @ Hickory 8 Theater — suspect dead” the Metro Nashville PD tweeted out just a few minutes ago.
