Jennifer Garner is spilling a new tidbit about 13 Going on 30.
The 48-year-old actress was reminiscing about the rom com when she revealed that Mark Ruffalo, who played Matty, almost quit over the iconic “Thriller” dance scene.
“We started to learn the dance,” Jennifer recalled said, referring to her and co-stars Mark and Judy Greer. “Our first rehearsal I think it was like Mark, Judy, and me, and Judy and I were both dancers growing up, and poor Mark didn’t know that.”
Jennifer remembered him coming “in and he hated the rehearsal process so much he almost dropped out of the movie.”
However, Mark stuck things out and the dance scene is one of the most memorable in the movie.
The two actors, who first starred together in 13 Going on 30, just wrapped up filming on a new movie together called The Adam Project.
In it, Jennifer and Mark play the parents of Ryan Reynolds, who travels back in time to get help from his 13-year-old self. The two versions of Adam have to find their late father, a brilliant scientist, who is now the same age as he is in present day, and set things right in order to save the future.
“It was wonderful,” Jennifer shared about reuniting with Mark on screen with Good Morning America. “We were playing a married couple and we just had this instant comfort and obviously there’s just such a connection and a warmth.”
She adds, “It was actually a really beautiful experience to revisit that relationship.”
Mark Ruffalo has picked up his first Golden Globe award at the 2021 Golden Globes for his dual role as Dominick and Thomas Birdsey in I Know This Much Is True.
The 53-year-old actor accepted his award with his wife Sunrise by his side on Sunday (February 28).
“Thank you for always leading with the idea of humanity, however it comes — beautiful, ugly, inspiring, sad,” Mark shared in his speech, directly thanking director Derek Cianfrance.
His speech also called on others to take care of the Earth.
“It’s my humble belief that what will give all the sadness and loss that we all live through meaning is our common humanity. What connects us is greater than what keeps us apart. And the more we include each other, and see each other and hear each other, the faster we will heal our broken hearts and minds,” he said.
Mark continued, “We have a dying mother, just like the mother in our story. She is Mother Earth. And we must come to balance with her and honor her. And she will heal too. So let’s be courageous together. Let’s turn the page on the cruel past of this nation,” he said. “The good news is inclusion and justice and care for Mother Earth is breaking out everywhere. The godly light of decency is breaking through the hideous, dark storm we’ve been living through.”
This is Mark‘s fourth nomination at the Golden Globes, and his first win.
