Rina Sawayama Wows in Vintage Balmain Dress at Brit Awards 2021!

Rina Sawayama makes an epic arrival on the red carpet at the 2021 Brit Awards!

The 30-year-old singer wore a vintage dress while attending the event on Tuesday (May 11) at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Rina was nominated for the Rising Star Award, though the award went to singer Griff.

On her decision to wear vintage on the carpet, Rina told British Vogue, “I don’t think many people realize that whenever I do shoots or performances, whatever I’m wearing is either vintage or a sample that gets passed around.”

“I love Balmain,” she added. “I remember when Olivier came out with his first collection it was these amazing structural, ornate dresses. Every single collection since then has been such a major fashion moment. I’m so honored to be wearing this piece – it’s absolutely beautiful and so detailed.”

FYI: Rina is wearing a vintage Balmain dress.

Elton John Joins Rina Sawayama for 'Chosen Family,' a Moving Ode to Her LGBTQ Family

Elton John and Rina Sawayama are teaming up together.

The 74-year-old “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” music icon and the 30-year-old “XS” rising superstar joined forces for a special rendition of Rina‘s song “Chosen Family” on Wednesday (April 14).

We don’t need to be related to relate / We don’t need to share genes or a surname / You are, you are / My chosen, chosen family,” they sing together.

The track was produced by Danny L Harle and written by Rina, Danny and Jonny Latimer, and is described as emotional ode to her LGBTQ+ family. The new version now includes Elton‘s vocals and piano playing.

“It was such a joy and honor to rework ‘Chosen Family’ with the legendary Elton John. The song means so much to both of us, and recording it together was such a special experience I will never forget. I got shivers when I heard his voice through the monitor and became emotional when he added the piano parts. Elton has been such a huge supporter from before the album, and when we finally met to record this song we clicked from the get go. I hope people can hear the magic!” Rina said.

Me and Lauren Aquilina wrote this together on the floor of my tiny rented living room back in early 2018. Bloodpop sent us the beat and the melody flowed out so easily that I remember at one point I started hoovering cos I knew this would be easy to write lol,” she said.

“I’ve kept this song secret for 2 years so I’m so excited to finally release it to the world ! 2020′s been a tough year so I wanted to finish it off with a dance bop to take us into a more hopeful 2021 ❤”

Rina Sawayama Debuts Music Video for 'Bad Friend' - Watch!

Rina Sawayama is back with a new visual!

The Sawayama superstar debuted the music video for “Bad Friend” on Wednesday (May 20) off of her critically acclaimed debut album.

The video was directed by Ali Kurr, and features Rina as “a seemingly reserved gentleman who, after numerous bar pours, is pushed to a violent edge.”

“The ‘Bad Friend’ video was one of the last videos we shot before UK lockdown with director Ali Kurr. We had so much fun making this, as it was my first time doing stunts and being in prosthetic makeup. The song is about the heartbreak of losing a friendship and realising that you were the cause of the breakdown,” she explains.

“When you hear the song, this is not the video you imagine – but that’s exactly what we wanted. The music video is a reimagining of the themes in ‘Bad Friend’; of longing, loss, self-hate and ultimately self-love. Choosing a slow, film noir style focuses all the attention on performance and acting, which was definitely very daunting, but I had so much fun making a video that is so wildly different from my previous videos.”

Rina Sawayama's Debut Album Is Finally Here - Stream & Download Now!

Rina Sawayama is a Japanese British pop artist who has been gaining a big fan base over the years and she has finally dropped her debut album, Sawayama!

The 29-year-old singer was born in Japan and moved to London when she was five. She dropped an EP back in 2017 and this is her first full-length album.

“The album ultimately is about family and identity. It’s about understanding yourself in the context of two opposing cultures (for me British and Japanese), what ‘belonging’ means when home is an evolving concept, figuring out where you sit comfortably within and awkwardly outside of stereotypes, and ultimately trying to be ok with just being you, warts and all,” Rina said in a statement.
