Shaggy is getting candid about his upcoming performance in The Little Mermaid Live!

The 51-year-old musician spoke to reporters about the role at the Television Critics Association ahead of tonight’s premiere of The Little Mermaid Live! on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.

“To be honest with you, it’s me trying to wrap my head around the whole thing right now because I’m still learning. This is something new, this animation into live. I think it’s just singing the song and making it my own and making it be as entertaining and believable to you. That’s my main thing. That’s where my head is at,” he said.

“With Sebastian, he’s bringing so much positivity. He’s encouraging Ariel. These are things, when you look at your life, you always have these things happen. There’s good and there’s the evil, there’s relationship. Everybody can relate to relationship and love and everybody got that one friend, that one person who’s rooting for them. And that one that has your back and keeps your secrets, or may not.”

John Stamos joins Auli’i Cravalho on the blue carpet at the premiere event for The Little Mermaid Live! in Los Angeles on Monday (November 4).

The two stars met up with their co-stars, Graham Phillips, Shaggy and Amber Riley for the event, ahead of the premiere tomorrow night.

If you missed it, director Hamish Hamilton opened up about how the presentation will work for fans watching from their homes on television.

ABC just released the first sneak peeks for the music from the upcoming, The Little Mermaid Live!

The new visuals give us a look inside recording for the upcoming event with Auli’i Cravalho, Queen Latifah, John Stamos, Shaggy, and Graham Phillips.

The special give fans an inside look at recording the songs for the concert, including “Under the Sea,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” “Her Voice,” “Les Poissons” and, “Part of Your World.”

“Recording music for this live event has been awe-inspiring,” Auli’i shared in one of the videos. “The first song that I sang was ‘Part of Your World’, and my first take went really, really well. I was like ‘oh, this feels really good’, and I turned to Alan [Menken] and he was just like ‘Yasss!’”

The 56-year-old actor will star as Chef Louis in the upcoming production, opposite Auli’i Cravalho as Ariel, Graham Phillips as Prince Eric, Queen Latifah as Ursula, and Shaggy as Sebastian.

The Little Mermaid Live! is a celebration the 30th anniversary of the beloved animated movie through a never-before-seen hybrid musical featuring intricate live sets, costumes and music from the original animated film and the Tony-nominated Broadway stage version.

We have your first look at The Little Mermaid Live!

The special, live event will star Auli’i Cravalho as Ariel, Queen Latifah as Ursula, Graham Phillips as Prince Eric, John Stamos at Chef Louis, and Shaggy as Sebastian, in a celebration the 30th anniversary of the beloved animated movie through a never-before-seen hybrid musical featuring intricate live sets, costumes and music from the original animated film and the Tony-nominated Broadway stage version.

Not only do we get our first look at each character, but there are also clips of each character singing songs from their character!

The Wonderful World of Disney Presents The Little Mermaid Live! will air in about one month on Tuesday, November 5th at 8pm on ABC!

ABC is moving forward with the live concert production of The Little Mermaid and the initial casting has been announced!

Auli’i Cravalho, who voiced the title character in the Oscar-nominated movie Moana, is playing Ariel and Queen Latifah is set to play Ursula.

Reggae singer Shaggy is going to play Sebastian.

The live event will happen in front of a studio audience and it will air on Tuesday, November 5 at 8pm. The special will interweave the live performances with clips from the animated movie. Music from the Broadway stage version of the musical will be included.

A live concert production of The Little Mermaid has been staged at the Hollywood Bowl two times so far, with Sara Bareilles and Lea Michele leading the casts. The film played on a big screen and whenever a song happened, the film would pause and the actors would come out on stage to perform the number.

There’s also a live film adaptation starring Halle Bailey in the works!

Enrique Iglesias hits the stage at 103.5 KTU’s KTUphoria concert at Jones Beach Theater on Saturday (June 16) in Wantagh, New York.

The 43-year-old Spanish singer was joined by Ne-Yo at the event. The two guys also took the stage to perform with Pitbull.

Also on the concert lineup were Charlie Puth, Dua Lipa, Sting with Shaggy, and boy bands Backstreet Boys and 98 Degrees.

In case you missed it, earlier in the weekend, Enrique and his partner Anna Kournikova shared some super adorable photos of their twins while watching one of the 2018 World Cup soccer matches.
