Sophia Loren is expected to be nominated for an Oscar next year for her performance in the upcoming Netflix movie The Life Ahead and she’ll break some impressive records if she does land that nomination!

The 86-year-old actress won an Oscar back in 1962 for her performance in Two Women and she was the first actor to win for a foreign language movie. She was also nominated in 1965 for her performance in Marriage Italian Style.

If Sophia is nominated in 2021, it will be a 56-year span between her two most recent nominations, marking the longest gap between acting nominations. The current record is held by Henry Fonda and he had a 41-year gap between nominations.

Variety noted that Sophia will also be the oldest nominee in the Best Actress category. The current record holder is Emmanuelle Riva, who was 85 when she was nominated for Amour.

The Life Ahead is directed by Sophia‘s son, Edoardo Ponti. Here’s the synopsis: “In seaside Italy, a Holocaust survivor with a daycare business, Madame Rosa (Loren), takes in 12-year-old street kid Momo, the boy who recently robbed her. The two loners become each other’s protectors, anchoring an unconventional family.”

Sophia Loren is back on the big screen with Netflix‘s upcoming feature, The Life Ahead.

The 86-year-old Oscar winning actress stars as Rosa in the drama film.

Here’s the official summary: In the colorful Italian port city of Bari, the streetwise 12-year-old Senegalese orphan Momo (Ibrahima Gueye) has ambitions to make his fortune in the underworld of the town’s shady alleyways.

One day, he steals a bag of items from the elderly Madame Rosa (Loren), a Holocaust survivor who makes a meagre living raising the children of prostitutes with whom she once shared the streets.

When Momo is forced to apologize to Rosa, she reluctantly agrees to take him in temporarily and the two lonely individuals find an unlikely family in each other through a deep and unconventional bond.

“The Life Ahead”, directed by Sophia‘s son, Edoardo Ponti, will make its debut on Netflix on November 13.

The film is also being planned for a November theatrical release.

America Ferrera, Regina King, and Meg Ryan walk the red carpet at the 2019 Governors Awards on Sunday night (October 27) at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood.

Also in attendance at the event were Nia Long, as well as the legendary Sophia Loren with her daughter-in-law Sasha Alexander. Regina was joined at the event Damon Lindelof, the executive producer of her new HBO series Watchmen.

The Governors Awards, which is organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, is the official start of awards season.

Sophia Loren poses for a photo with director Rob Marshall at a reception for the Disney musical Mary Poppins Returns on Friday (January 11) at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The legendary actress made a rare public appearance to support the film. She worked with Rob on the movie musical Nine back in 2009.

Also in attendance at the event were Sophia‘s son Edoardo Ponti, songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, and actor Jon Voight.

Mary Poppins Returns was nominated for four Golden Globes and it’s up for nine Critics’ Choice Awards this weekend.

Priyanka Chopra looks stunning in white as she arrives at the Giorgio Armani Prive Haute Couture Fashion Show on Tuesday (July 4) in Paris, France.

The 34-year-old Quantico star was joined at the event by tons of stars including Naomi Watts, Kate Winslet, Barbara Palvin, and Italian actress Sophia Loren.

Charlize Theron hits the red carpet at the premiere of her new movie Dark Places on Tuesday (July 21) at the Harmony Gold Theatre in Los Angeles.

Also in attendance at the premiere, which was sponsored by Apothic Wines and Svedka Vodka, were her co-stars Christina Hendricks and Shannon Kook, as well as movie legend Sophia Loren with her son Edoardo Ponti.

The new film is based on a book by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn and in a joint interview with E! News, Charlize revealed her plans to get the writer to pen a sequel to the hit book.

“You have to, come on, you have to,” Charlize told her. “I’ll get her drunk tonight and make her sign a contract.”
