Twitter Users Are Boycotting LeBron James' 'Space Jam 2' Over His Controversial Tweet

People are upset with LeBron James after his tweet where he seemingly threatened a police officer.

This week, the 36-year-old L.A. Lakers player took to his Twitter and posted a photo of the white police officer who tragically killed young teen, Ma’Khia Bryant. “You’re Next #Accountability,” he captioned the photo of the officer in question, Nicholas Reardon.

LeBron then took down the tweet and then shared an explanation as to why he deleted it.

“I’m so damn tired of seeing Black people killed by police,” LeBron wrote. “I took the tweet down because its being used to create more hate -This isn’t about one officer. it’s about the entire system and they always use our words to create more racism. I am so desperate for more ACCOUNTABILITY.”

However, people are still upset with LeBron and have started a campaign on Twitter to boycott his upcoming movie Space Jam 2.

“#boycottspacejam @KingJames crossed a line. He needs to be held accountable,” one person tweeted.

“Lola was not politically correct,” he previously told EW about the previous portrayal of the character. “This is a kids’ movie, why is she in a crop top? It just felt unnecessary, but at the same time there’s a long history of that in cartoons.”

He added, “We reworked a lot of things, not only her look, like making sure she had an appropriate length on her shorts and was feminine without being objectified, but gave her a real voice. For us, it was, let’s ground her athletic prowess, her leadership skills, and make her as full a character as the others.”

A few weeks ago, Zendaya made headlines when she altered a certain interview question she was asked.

LeBron James' 'Space Jam' Sequel Will Not Feature Pepe Le Pew - Here's Why

Pepe Le Pew is not going to be included in Warner Bros new Space Jam sequel.

Deadline reports that the Looney Tunes character will not appear in the new sequel to the 1996 film, Space Jam: A New Legacy starring Lebron James.

The decision comes after New York Times columnist Charles M. Blow slammed the French skunk for perpetuating rape culture in a column about racial bias in Dr. Suess’ books.

He defended the statement on Twitter, writing, “RW blogs are mad bc I said Pepe Le Pew added to rape culture. Let’s see. 1. He grabs/kisses a girl/stranger, repeatedly, w/o consent and against her will. 2. She struggles mightily to get away from him, but he won’t release her 3. He locks a door to prevent her from escaping.”

A specific scene has been cut from the movie after the controversy, which featured a Casablanca-inspired cafe sequence where Jane the Virgin actress Greice Santo slapped Pepe across the face after he kissed her arm. Lebron then tells Pepe he can’t grab other Tunes without their consent.

Greice was reportedly upset that the scene had been cut from the film. A spokesperson for Greice said, “This was such a big deal for Greice to be in this movie. Even though Pepe is a cartoon character, if anyone was going to slap a sexual harasser like him, Greice wished it would be her. Now the scene is cut, and she doesn’t have that power to influence the world through younger generations who’ll be watching Space Jam 2, to let younger girls and younger boys know that Pepe’s behavior is unacceptable.”

Last week it was revealed another Looney Tunes character would be getting a major revamp for the sequel.

Lola Bunny Has a New Look for 'Space Jam 2' & The Director Is Explaining the Change

One of the biggest trending topics on Twitter on Thursday (March 4) was “Lola Bunny” after the Space Jam character’s new look for the upcoming sequel was revealed.

New photos from the upcoming movie Space Jam: A New Legacy, which will star LeBron James and the cast of Looney Tunes characters, were debuted in Entertainment Weekly‘s new issue.

In the first movie, Lola had a voluptuous figure and wore a crop top and short shorts as her basketball uniform. In the sequel, her breasts will not be as prominent and she’s wearing a full length jersey.

“This is 2021,” director Malcolm D. Lee told EW. “It’s important to reflect the authenticity of strong, capable female characters.”

Lee said he was caught off guard by how Lola was “very sexualized” in the first movie, so he decided to rework her look.
