“It’s been a lifelong dream as a filmmaker to one day make a great fighter pilot film. As the daughter of a great fighter pilot myself, some of the best memories of my life are of seeing my father’s squadron take off in their F4s every morning, and hearing and feeling the awe-inspiring power and grace. When he passed away in service to this country it ignited a burning desire to one day channel all of those emotions into one great film. When the perfect story arrived in combination with another true love of mine, the incomparable world of Star Wars, I knew I’d finally found my next film. I’m extremely honored and excited to take it on, and grateful to Lucasfilm, Disney, and the fans for extending that thrill to me,” she said in a statement.

David Prowse Dead - Beloved Darth Vader 'Star Wars' Actor Dies at 85

David Prowse has sadly died.

The actor who played the legendary villainous role of Darth Vader in Star Wars passed away at the age of 85, his agent confirmed Sunday (November 29).

“It’s with great regret and heart-wrenching sadness for us and millions of fans around the world, to announce that our client Dave Prowse MBE has passed away at the age of 85,” his agent said in a statement.

The actor was born in 1935 in Bristol, England, and was previously a bodybuilder and Mr. Universe competitor, known by the stage name “Jack the Ripper.”

He was also Christopher Reeve‘s Superman trainer.

Most famously, he played Darth Vader in the Star Wars franchise after being recruited by George Lucas due to his fame in the bodybuilding world, as well as his role in Clockwork Orange.

Due to his British accent, his voice was dubbed over by James Earl Jones in post-production.

In addition to his most iconic role, he also starred in The Saint, Doctor Who, The Beverly Hillbillies and many horror films.

“Many people will know me for being the ultimate screen villain, Star Wars’ Darth Vader. But being a ‘goodie goodie’ and heading up the Green Cross Code campaign, helping to save thousands of lives has always been the ultimate honour,” he said in 2014.

He was married for 57 years to Norma Scammell and they had 3 kids together.

“So sad to hear David Prowse has passed. He was a kind man & much more than Darth Vader. Actor-Husband-Father-Member of the Order of the British Empire-3 time British Weightlifting Champion & Safety Icon the Green Cross Code Man. He loved his fans as much as they loved him. #RIP,” said Mark Hamill.

Our thoughts are with David Prowse‘s loved ones at this difficult time.

We have sadly lost all of these stars in 2020…
