Charles & Diana's Royal Wedding Will Not Be Part Of 'The Crown' Season Four

Many fans of The Crown are looking to watch one big thing in the new season, which is premiering on Netflix this weekend – the royal wedding!

However, it looks like you won’t get to see the actual wedding.

Stars Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor, who play Princess Diana and Prince Charles in the series, revealed just why the actual wedding was not filmed and won’t be shown.

“We never re-create things just for the sake of re-creating them,” Emma stated in a new interview with THR. “I think if we do re-create a scene — like the engagement scene, for instance, when they do the announcement — it has to be because it’s linked to something that the characters are going through. It has to be part of the story. It has to further the plot.

Emma added that the real wedding is actually available to watch online anyhow.

“You could be watching it in 10 seconds so I don’t think there’d be any point in us re-creating it.”

Josh adds, “That’s The Crown for you. That’s why The Crown is so good. Peter Morgan isn’t interested in showing you the wedding because, yeah, Emma’s right, you just go on YouTube and you can watch it.”

“I think all the historical events are important for punctuating so that the audience know where we are,” he explained. “He’ll put in Thatcher’s election, and that’s literally just to tell the audience, ‘Right, this is where we are,’ rather than putting up on the screen ’20th of December 1981,’ or whatever. He basically signposts it using historical events. But what’s more interesting, because Charles and Diana have to be a certain way on their wedding day, you don’t see the nuance; whereas when it’s behind closed doors, [like] the rehearsal, we have more license to create and fictionalize.”

The Crown season four premieres on Sunday, November 15.

Emma Corrin Insisted This Part of Princess Diana's Life Be in 'The Crown'

Emma Corrin is opening up about playing Princess Diana in the new season of The Crown.

During a new interview, the 24-year-old actress insisted that the show covered the late princess’ battle with bulimia “in an honest way.”

“We’d been working on her body language, and we put together a document that we sent to the script team and said: ‘Can you include some of this in the writing because we’d love to really flesh out those scenes?’” Emma shared with Radio Times.

“I felt that if we were trying to depict bulimia in an honest way, we had to actually show it – otherwise it’s a disservice to anyone who has been through that,” Emma added. “I don’t think we should shy away from those conversations; Diana was very candid about her experience with bulimia, and I so admire that.”

While preparing for her role as Diana, Emma said she did extensive research on eating disorders.

“You can’t do justice to everything she was experiencing without including that,” Emma told Variety in a different interview. “It was so symptomatic of the emotional turmoil and all the suppressed emotions that she was feeling.”

The Crown's Olivia Colman & Helena Bonham Carter Share Their Advice For The Successors On The Show

Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter will wrap up their roles as Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret after the upcoming fourth season of The Crown on Netflix.

The two stars have some advice for their successors on the program, which will be played by Imelda Staunton and Lesley Manville.

“If she calls me, I’ll be so excited. Then what would you say to Imelda Staunton?” Olivia pondered. “Good luck…the wig’s itchy.”

She added that Imelda, who was most memorable in her role as Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter franchise, “already got a much better walk than me.”

Helena, who will be passing on the torch to Lesley as Margaret, shared that she’d love to pass on one particular item to her.

“It’s like handing a baton. It’s like a relay race, but it never comes back,” she shared. “I want to hand her my cigarette holder and say, ‘Good luck with this.’ That would be nice, wouldn’t it?”
