Val Kilmer Reveals Why He Only Played Batman in 1 Movie & Responds to Rumors That He's Difficult on Set

Val Kilmer played the iconic role of Batman in the 1995 film Batman Forever, and he’s finally revealing why he left the role behind after only one movie.

It apparently started when he did a set visit with investor Warren Buffett with his grandkids. He stayed in costume, waiting for the grandkids to arrive, and when they did, they showed more interest in the Batman props and Batmobile than meeting him.

“That’s why it’s so easy to have five or six Batmans,” Val told the New York Times. “It’s not about Batman. There is no Batman.”

Val took over the role of Batman from Michael Keaton, who starred in the 1992 movie Batman Returns. George Clooney took over the role from Val.

Val also addressed rumors that he has been difficult to work with on set, including rumors that he burned a crew member’s sideburn with a lit cigarette on the set of The Island of Dr. Moreau.

“Everyone has to work out their own salvation,” he responded. “How to live and by what morality, and I found that the part that I feel bad about is hurting somebody in the process.”

A 1996 EW article elaborated further on the incident, with one source saying, “He burned that cameraman right on his face, and no, he wasn’t fooling around. It was intentional. He did apologize to the crew.”

“Val was sort of teasing him with the end of his cigarette and burned this guy’s sideburn,” executive producer Tim Zinnemann said about the incident. “The guy was upset, naturally.”

The two started dating back in 2001 after meeting on the set of In God We Trust, until she eventually moved on with Neil Young.

Neil Young, I always loved you, but I’m afraid I hate you now,” he wrote.

He also opened up about dating Cher in the early ’80s.

“Once Cher works her way inside your head and heart, she never leaves. For her true friends, her steadfast love and loyalty never die.”

He also spoke about dating Angelina Jolie, who was “perhaps the most soulful and serious of them all.

“When people ask what she’s like, I say she’s like other women and other superstars, just MORE,” he said.

Val Kilmer Speaks About His Throat Cancer for the First Time & Reveals How Cher Helped Him Through It

Val Kilmer is speaking out about being diagnosed with throat cancer for the very first time in his new book “I’m Your Huckleberry.”

The 60-year-old actor battled rumors for years and years that he had been fighting cancer, and he finally confirmed his health issues in April of 2017. He has not spoken publicly much about his health, until now.

In his memoir, Val wrote that he was staying in Cher‘s guest house in 2015 when his health was declining.

“One night I suddenly awoke vomiting blood that covered the bed like a scene out of The Godfather. I prayed immediately, then called 911. Then alerted my hostess. Cher stepped in and stepped up,” he wrote (via People.)

“And yet even in my grave condition, I saw her scanning the paramedic, who was Gregory Peck drop-dead handsome. Only in Hollywood, right? Despite the fact that I was covered in blood, I caught her eye and bounced my brows like Groucho Marx. Hubba hubba. Cher was bashful to be busted but then couldn’t help laughing out loud at the audacity. Here we were, joking about beauty and desire, while I looked like a stunt man from Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs and, yes, while my life seemed to be in mortal danger. We laughed out loud before they finished with my vitals and shut me up with an oxygen mask,” he continued.

“I have been healed of cancer for over four years now, and there has never been any reoccurrence. I am so grateful,” he continued. “The fact that my impeded speech could spell the end of my career only served to motivate me.”

We’re so glad to hear that Val is healed. Val is not often seen in public, but he did make a rare appearance in October of 2019.
