Wonder Woman 1984 is officially headed to HBO Max and Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins are really excited about it!

Just after the announcement was made, the director and star of the movie took to social media with notes for fans.

“At some point you have to choose to share any love and joy you have to give, over everything else,” Patty wrote on her Twitter. “We love out move as we love our fans, so we truly hope that our film brings a little bit of joy and reprieve to all of you this holiday season.”

Gal added in her own note that decided to have it on HBO Max “wasn’t an easy decision and we never thought we’d have to hold onto the release for such a long time.”

Wonder Woman 1984 is a special one for me and I can only hope it’ll be as special to you too…You can watch it IN THEATERS (they’re doing an amazing job keeping it safe) and you can watch it on HBOMax from your homes.”

The official trailer also added the HBO Max information to the end.

Wonder Woman 1984 will premiere on Christmas Day, December 25.

There was a fear just a month ago that the movie might move to 2021. See what Patty and Gal shared about that possibility here…

'Wonder Woman 1984' Finalizes Release Plans; Will Debut Christmas Day in Theaters & on HBO Max

It’s official – Wonder Woman 1984 will be out in theaters on Christmas Day, December 25.

The film, starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine and Kristin Wiig, will also head to HBO Max for a dual release, Warner Bros. Pictures announced today.

The December 25 release date comes after multiple delays throughout the pandemic.

Wonder Woman 1984 was originally scheduled for June 5 before moving to August 14, and then October 2.

There is no set release date for international theaters just yet.

Wonder Woman 1984 will find the titular heroine facing off against two new foes: Max Lord and The Cheetah.

Director Patty Jenkins recently opened up about the delayed release of the film, and was very hopeful the movie would be out by December.

“We just don’t know what the course of COVID is going to be like,” she told Variety.

'Wonder Woman 1984' Might Not Open on Christmas Anymore Amid Pandemic

Wonder Woman 1984 is currently scheduled to open in theaters on December 25, but now everyone’s not so sure amid the pandemic.

Pedro Pascal, co-star of the Gal Gadot-led film, which has already moved release dates six times (three since the pandemic), got candid about the reality of the release date in an interview with Variety.

“As far as movie releases are concerned and the tremendous way that the industry is having to improvise around these circumstances, nothing is surprising. We’re all getting used to things shifting day-to-day, hour-to-hour, you know? That’s what we’re all dealing with,” he revealed.

“I don’t think anybody can be confident of anything right now,” director Patty Jenkins told Variety.

“We just don’t know what the course of COVID is going to be like,” she continued, adding that she is “very hopeful” her film can still open in December.

“It feels totally possible to me,” she said.

“It’s unbelievably surreal. The biggest surreality about it is it’s supposed to be one adventure, right? You sign on to the movie, you write the movie, you direct the movie, you make the movie, the movie comes out, and you move on. Instead, like, I spent three years doing one thing, seven days a week, and then I just popped out of it to just nothing. No evidence of that [work]. I mean, that’s not true. I still work on, you know, Doritos bags bags and stuff like that all the time,” she said.

“For the longest time, the only people who’d seen the movie were the people who’d worked on the movie. We just showed our own agents. That was thrilling, to finally get to talk to people who didn’t know what the movie was. But it’s super weird to go from making a movie with such detail and being so excited for the experience of people getting to share in that with you, and then just going on to cleaning your house and cooking.”

“I don’t know,” Pedro Pascal went on to say about predicting the future of the film.

“That would that would be like assuming I know scientifically, economically, socially so many large things that are just way above my pay-grade. We have information, but still there’s so much more information to be had and sometimes the information feels like it changes so quickly. As maddening and as scary as that feels like to live with on a day-to-day basis, it does make sense, because this is new. Every time I’m like, ‘Well, why don’t we knoowwww?’ It’s like, because it’s a new virus. It just takes time to figure it out.”

In the meantime, Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot are teaming up on an entirely separate story that’s making headlines.

'Wonder Woman 1984' Pushed Back Again to End of 2020

Warner Bros. has announced that fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see Wonder Woman 1984.

The movie was originally supposed to be released in theaters on June 5, then was pushed back to August 14, and then again to October 2.

Now, the movie will be hitting theaters on December 25 for Christmas.

Because I know how important it is to bring this movie to you on a big screen when all of us can share the experience together, I’m hopeful you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer. With the new date on Christmas Day, we can’t wait to spend the holidays with you!”

Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich said, “Patty is an exceptional filmmaker and with Wonder Woman 1984 she has delivered an incredibly dynamic film that moviegoers of all ages around the world will absolutely love. We’re very proud of the film and look forward to bringing it to audiences for the holidays.”

Patty Jenkins Says 'Wonder Woman 3' Likely to Be the Last in Franchise

Wonder Woman is coming to an end.

Director Patty Jenkins opened up about the fate of the Gal Gadot-led superhero franchise in an interview with Geek, via ComingSoon.

The sequel to the first Wonder Woman movie of the franchise, Wonder Woman 1984, is still set to hit theaters on October 2.

WW84 gave me a chance to do a lot of things that I couldn’t accommodate in the first movie. I was so happy to tell the Wonder Woman origin story. It was almost her birth, but we really haven’t seen what she is capable of. It is exciting for me to show her at the peak of her strength. But it is also very important that she fights an internal struggle: she is a Goddess and tries to help humanity. She is not only someone who fights evil, she tries to show bad people how to improve. It’s an interesting dilemma. The next one is probably my last Wonder Woman movie, so I have to put everything I want to show there. We have to think carefully,” Patty explained to the outlet.

Gal Gadot and Kristen Wiig, the stars of Wonder Woman 1984, recently revealed that it “isn’t really” a sequel. See what they said!

Gal Gadot & Kristen Wiig Say 'Wonder Woman 1984' Isn't Really a Sequel: 'It's Totally On Its Own'

Gal Gadot and Kristen Wiig are opening up about how Wonder Woman 1984 really isn’t a sequel to the first Wonder Woman film at all.

The two stars spoke to Total Film magazine and revealed all the reasons why the movie should be considered a stand alone movie.

“In the first movie, we really explored the journey of the coming-of-age, of how Diana Prince became Wonder Woman, and owned her full strengths and powers,” Gal shared. “She was fresh, she was green, she was a fish out of water, she was young…er!”

She continues, “We don’t pick up the story where we left it last, because it was 66 years ago. So she’s been living for over six decades by herself, in man’s world, serving mankind and doing good.”

“This story is a story of its own. I mean, the only thing that we share in both stories is probably, you know, the fact that it’s Diana Prince and also Steve Trevor. But other than that, it’s a whole new world, and the era is different, and Diana is different, and the story is new.”

Kristen, who plays villain Cheetah, agreed.

“It really doesn’t feel like a sequel in that… everything’s different,” she says. “The posters, the music, everything…obviously the posters are different! I meant, like the style! A lot of time, with the sequel, you want to show the connection to the first one. And this one…”

Gal adds, “It’s totally of its own. It’s true. I feel, in the first movie, a big thing that we played off was the naiveté of Diana. And she’s not naive anymore. She’s been around. She’s wiser. She’s more mature. We meet a very much evolved character in this one.”
