Robert De Niro & Al Pacino Open Up About Their 50 Year Friendship

Robert De Niro and Al Pacino pose together on the cover of GQ‘s Men of the Year issue, available now.

Here’s what The Irishman co-stars had to share with the mag:

Al on meeting Robert for the first time: I remember the meeting very clearly. Unbelievably, I saw this guy, I thought, Wow, he’s got such charisma. He wasn’t doing anything. He was just walking. Remember? You know, he was Bob. But you felt something from him.

Robert the last film they did together, Righteous Kill: “We went to Europe, a couple of cities for the premiere, and I said: ‘Well, look, Al, one day let’s hope that we’re gonna be here for a movie that we can really feel great about.’ That’s all. Nothing against that movie. But it wasn’t what [The Irishman] is.”

Al on why his 50 year friendship with Robert works: “We get together. And there’s a trust there. There just is. We understand this thing together a little bit better. And you go there sometimes just to get some feedback. We talk about things…We kibitz.”

Leonardo DiCaprio Honors Martin Scorsese at Santa Barbara Film Festival!

Leonardo DiCaprio is dapper in a suit while attending the Santa Barbara International Film Festival: Kirk Douglas Award Honoring Martin Scorsese held at The Ritz-Carlton Bacara on Thursday (November 14) in Goleta, Calif.

The 44-year-old Oscar winner was joined by Al Pacino and Roger Durling as they all stepped out to help honor the man of the night, Martin Scorsese.

“One of the most remarkable things about Martin Scorsese — besides being one of our greatest filmmakers — is the generosity that he exudes to everybody on set, from his creative team to his crew and especially the actors that he works with,” Leonardo expressed during his speech (via THR). “He treats each and every one of us as a real collaborator and that is not easily said. You can say you’re a collaborator but Marty truly wants to know what you have to say as an artist.”

“These collaborations have been forged through the years. They’re strong, symbiotic relationships with Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, Joe Pesci, and dare I say myself. Through the years, these collaborations have become more like his alter egos, his muse, or more like his family,” Leonardo continued. “His body of work will be revered for centuries and generations to come.”

Netflix Movie 'The Irishman' Will Play in a Broadway Theater for One Month!

The upcoming Netflix movie The Irishman, directed by Martin Scorsese, is set to play in a Broadway theater for one month.

Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci‘s awards-worthy film will play in New York City’s Belasco Theatre from November 1 through December 1.

The film will run on a normal Broadway schedule of eight showings a week. There will be screenings in the evenings Tuesday through Sunday and matinees on Saturday and Sunday.

Netflix will be bringing in state-of-the-art equipment to display the movie on a big screen in the Broadway house. This will be the first time a movie is screened in the Belasco in the theater’s 112-year history.

“We’ve lost so many wonderful theaters in New York City in recent years, including single house theaters like the Ziegfeld and the Paris,” Scorsese said in a statement (via Deadline). “The opportunity to recreate that singular experience at the historic Belasco Theatre is incredibly exciting.”

The Irishman will begin streaming on Netflix on November 27.
